1. Make sure that you can safely lift any item(s), following general manual handling guidance.

2.  Ensure that the activities do not place yourself or others at risk.

3.  Handling cash:

  • Always agree in advance on the amount that can be spent and whether the place of purchase is important.

  • Amounts of money changing hands need to always be signed for, both before and after completing the task.

  • The volunteer should always request a receipt from the seller and give it back to whoever gave them the money (service user or relative).

4.  Never benefit in any way when using another person’s money on his/her behalf and never guide them in the use of their own money.

5.  Volunteers and service users must never borrow or lend money to each other.

6.  onHand has been designed to enable tasks to fit in with the daily routine of the volunteer, so it is expected that out-of-pocket expenses will not be incurred.

8. Giving or receiving gifts of any kind must be avoided.

9. If you are driving an older person to a task please click here to be taken to the guidance on driving.
