Save time for you and your families by allowing them to fill out and submit their free and reduced meal application online in jmc Family. After submitting information use jmc Office to review their application. When approving the application students in the family are updated with the new lunch benefit status and a notification letter can be sent to the family. The entire process from applying to approving is done online!

To start processing Free/Reduced meal applications submitted online through jmc Family, open jmc Office and navigate to Lunch > Free/Reduced > Meals Application Status.

Fun Fact: Families who have submitted a free/reduced meal application will be listed in the “Pending” box for you to choose from to begin approving.

Step One: Click the "Select" link to select the family whose application you want to review.

A few fun facts

  • If the family information entered qualifies for free or reduced-price meals, the determination will display next to "Eligible For" on the page.

  • Income cutoff information will be listed to show why the family qualifies or does not qualify.

  • The dependents for a contact are displayed in the “Student List” to make you aware of which students will have their status updated.

Step Two: Click the "View Application" button to view the application prior to acceptance or deletion.


Helpful Tip: The Free/Reduced meal application information will appear at the bottom of the current page for quick reference.

Step Three: Click the "Print" button to print the currently selected application for your records.

Step Four: Click the "Hide Application" button to stop viewing the application on the bottom of the current page.

Helpful Tip: Click the "Delete" button if there is any reason the application would need to be re-submitted by the family. Deleting a record from here permanently removes it from jmc Office and jmc Family.

Step Five: Enter the date the determined status change should start in the "Status Effective Date" field or simply click the calendar icon to select a date using a calendar view.

Helpful Tip: Using an effective date in the past will update existing transactions and balances to the newly determined status when the process is completed.

Step Six: Enter the date the determination was made in the "Determination Made Date" field or simply click the calendar icon to select a date using a calendar view.

Step Seven: Click the "Accept Application" button to apply the determination result to the selected dependents in the "Student List".

Helpful Tip: Once an application is accepted, it will move from the “Pending" box to the “Processed” box and can be selected and viewed there.

Step Eight: Place a checkmark in the "Breakfast" and/or "Lunch" checkboxes to include the appropriate prices of those meals for this contact on the notification letter.

Step Nine: Enter information into the appropriate fields (Hearing Official, Phone, Address, City/State/Zip, Eligibility Official, and Phone) to document pertinent information and have it printed on the letter.

A few helpful tips

  • The "Eligibility Official" is the person that processes the application.

  • The "Hearing Official" is the person the family would contact if they wished to appeal the application determination.

Step Ten (optional): Place a checkmark in the "Adjust for Windowed Envelope" checkbox if you are using windowed envelopes and need the mailing address printed.

Step Eleven: Click the "View Notification Letter" button to download the eligibility notification letter for the currently displayed contact as a PDF file to print or save.

Helpful Tip: Non-discrimination statements are located at the bottom of each letter and will vary by state and by year. jmc will make every attempt to ensure your letters have the most current non-discrimination statements as required by your state.
