Once one or more bell schedules have been established in jmc Office, it's time to define each bell schedule by adding class periods and timeframes for automatically calculating instructional minutes. Define the class periods that make up each of your school's bell schedules by adding a name, type and timeframe to precisely calculate the amount of time your students spend in class.

Define class periods within a bell schedule in jmc Office by heading to Attendance > Bell Schedules and Class Periods > Edit Class Periods.

Step One: Select the schedule from the "Bell Schedule" drop-down list to edit the class periods within that schedule.

Step Two: Click the "+ Add Class Period" button to define class periods for the selected schedule.

Step Three: Select a number from the "Number" drop-down list to define when the period will be offered during your school day.

Step Four: Enter a name in the "Name" field to define the corresponding period.

Helpful Tip: Early education and elementary schools that do not follow a bell schedule might choose to define two periods ("AM" & "PM") while middle and high schools that follow a bell schedule may choose to define all periods of the school day ("Period 1", "Period 2", "Period 3", etc.) for state reporting purposes.

Step Five: Select "After School", "During School", "Before School", "During School Lunch", or "Evening School" from the "Type" drop-down list to add a description to the period.

Helpful Tip: A period that happens outside of the regularly scheduled school day may be defined as "Period 0" using the "Before School" designation from the "Type" drop-down list.

Step Six: Enter the "Start Time" and "End Time" for the selected period or simply click the clock icon to define the time of day the period meets.

Step Seven: Click the "Update" button to save your changes to the class period or click the "Cancel" button to discard them.

Step Eight: Repeat steps one through seven to define all class periods for each bell schedule in your school.

Helpful Tip: Click the "Edit" button to update information in an existing class period or click the "Delete" button to remove it.
