The Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST) is a suite of assessment tools designed for universal screening, progress monitoring, and program evaluation within a Response to Intervention (RtI) or Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework.
jmc securely shares student, course roster, and teacher data with FAST to help schools get started quickly and efficiently. To ensure seamless integration, a few setup requirements must first be completed in jmc Office.
Review the checklist below and complete each task in jmc Office to successfully integrate with FAST.
▢ Review student data on the View Student Data page
jmc shares student data with FAST when a student is marked as “Active” and included in both “Attendance” and “State Reporting” on the View Student Data page. Review and update this page for students participating in FAST testing to ensure their records are properly shared.
▢ Identify your FAST staff
Share teacher data with FAST by setting the teacher’s “Staff Type” on the Attendance > Staff > Teachers page. Select “FAST Classroom User” from the drop-down list to allow the teacher to administer assessments, manage progress monitoring groups, and access class-level reports for rostered students on the FAST site.
▢ Verify FAST teachers are assigned to course sections
After assigning staff the appropriate FAST “Staff Type,” add the staff member as the “Teacher” for at least one course section on the Schedules > Develop > Edit Course Data page. This ensures teacher information is accurately shared when students are scheduled into FAST courses.
▢ Confirm students are scheduled into FAST courses
Scheduling students into courses ensures the correct course rosters and student data are shared with FAST. Use a jmc scheduling tool, such as Schedule by Section or Edit Student Schedules, to assign students to a course section with the appropriate FAST teacher. This ensures FAST rosters reflect accurate student–teacher assignments.
▢ Confirm data is being transmitted
Navigate to File > SIF Events to view the real-time data stream from jmc to the state via the SIF agent once the connection is active. Use this page to confirm that data is successfully being transmitted to FAST.
▢ Review data quality validations
Once transmission is confirmed, navigate to File > SIF Validations to review any data quality errors that may be preventing successful reporting to the state. Resolve any listed errors as directed to ensure accurate data sharing between jmc and FAST.
▢ Contact the Iowa Department of Education
If all conditions above are met but data is still not appearing on the FAST site, contact the Iowa Department of Education to verify your school’s FAST connection.
