State reporting plays a vital role in school administration by supporting compliance and securing crucial state and federal funding. jmc makes it easy to exchange data with your state agency through a user-friendly interface that simplifies collection and submission—whether your state uses Ed-Fi or SIF. From student enrollment and course offerings to early education, special education, career readiness, and civil rights data collection, jmc supports a wide range of reporting requirements, helping your school stay on track and in compliance.
Fundamentals
Basic settings, configurations, and standard course and student data entry lay the foundation for connecting your school with your state’s data collection portal. Once that connection is in place, your student and course data will flow seamlessly to the state through your state’s designated data exchange system.
Ed-Fi: an education data standard and technology suite used by Minnesota, Wisconsin (WISEdata), and Nebraska (ADVISER) to enable a common data model, allowing jmc to securely share your school’s data with the state
Ed-Fi Settings: the page in jmc where you configure secure data exchanges between your school and the state via API and authentication URLs, along with a unique client key and secret
Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF): a technical standard that allows different educational systems to communicate and share data in real time or at scheduled intervals. SIF is used for Iowa State Reporting (SRI) and other assessments such as FAST and the Panorama Student Success Portal.
Student Data: the main page in jmc Office displaying all student information including basic demographic and enrollment data used for state reporting.
Edit Course Data: the page in jmc where you enter and manage basic course details, including state-specific section and course codes required for state reporting
Program Specific Data Collection and Entry
Many schools rely on state subsidies to support specialized programs such as Career and Technical Education (CTE), special education, early education (preschool), English Language Learner (ELL) services, and College and Career Readiness initiatives. These programs often require additional data collection and reporting to accurately document participation and secure necessary funding from the state.
Programs/ProgramHist tab: a tab on the View Student Data page in jmc used to track student participation in state-specific programs for reporting and funding purposes
Perkins (Minnesota): a module in jmc designed for Minnesota schools to manage data required for securing Perkins funding related to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs
Special Education: dedicated tabs on the View Student Data page—and additional state-specific pages—used to track and report special education services. In Iowa, these records are integrated into the student’s enrollment history.
Early Education: for states offering preschool program funding, jmc provides tailored data fields and workflows to track and report early education participation in compliance with state requirements
Submitting and Assessing data quality
Throughout the school year, districts must submit accurate, timely data to maintain state funding. In jmc, this process includes not only submitting required information but also identifying and resolving data quality issues that could disrupt reporting. When available, enabling scheduled or nightly submissions helps maintain a steady, up-to-date data stream with the state—reducing manual work and supporting compliance.
Ed-Fi Start Year, During Year, & End of Year: the pages for manually receiving and submitting student and course data to the state for Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska throughout the school year
Update Students by Grade Level: a page for submitting student data in mass for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska schools
Ed-Fi Summary PDF Reports: reports showing data that has been submitted to the state, including any data quality errors that may block successful submission
Update Student: a page for resubmitting corrected student data to the state after resolving identified data quality errors for Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Nebraska schools
Update Course: a page for resubmitting corrected course data to the state after resolving identified data quality errors for Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska schools
SIF Events: for Iowa schools, this page shows the real-time data stream from jmc to the state via the SIF agent once the connection is active
SIF Validations: for Iowa schools, this page lists data quality errors detected by the SIF agent that must be fixed to allow successful data flow to the state
