The Checkout+ widget is the customer-facing element that appears on your store's cart or checkout page. It's where customers decide to add shipping protection and other benefits to their order.
What Customers See
The widget displays as a compact bar or card with:
A headline describing the benefits (e.g., "Protect your order against loss, theft, and damage").
A second line with additional context (e.g., "Includes CashBack rewards and Satisfaction Guarantee").
A Checkout+ button to add protection (with the premium price shown).
An opt-out button for customers who don't want protection.
A "Powered by Onward" badge (optional).
Clicking the info icon or "Learn More" opens a details modal with cards explaining each benefit included in the bundle.
Widget Variants
There are two main ways the widget can appear, depending on your Shopify plan and configuration:
Cart Variant (App Embed Only)
This is the standard widget that appears on your cart page. It works on all Shopify plans and uses Shopify's App Embed feature to inject the widget into your cart.

Works on all Shopify plans.
Checkout Variant (App Embed + Checkout UI Extension)
For Shopify Plus merchants, the widget can also appear directly in the checkout using Shopify's Checkout UI Extension. This provides a more integrated experience.
Appears in the checkout flow (left rail or right rail).
Requires Shopify Plus.
Uses Checkout UI Extension for seamless integration.
Can be positioned in the left rail, right rail (tucked), or right rail (untucked).
Your Onward account manager will help you configure the right variant for your store during onboarding.
The Info Modal
When a customer taps "Learn More" or the info icon on the widget, a modal opens with detailed cards explaining the benefits. The cards shown depend on which features are enabled for your store:

Each card has a heading and description text that can be customized by the merchant.
The modal can also include disclaimer sections at the bottom:
Rewards disclaimer — Terms for CashBack rewards.
Subscriptions disclaimer — Terms for subscription orders.
Legal disclaimer — General legal terms.
Return policy disclaimer — Return policy summary.
Opt-Out Behavior
If a customer clicks the opt-out button:
The protection line item is removed from their cart.
They continue to checkout without coverage.
They can add it back by clicking the Checkout+ button again before completing checkout, or toggling our Checkout+ widget in checkout (Shopify Plus only).
