What Are NFTs?

You’ll hear an NFT described as a Non-Fungible token, which it is, but it doesn’t give much insight into this technology. An NFT is data stored on the blockchain, specifically ‘Metadata’.

Similar to any cryptocurrency you have, as it’s on the blockchain or in a wallet/ledger, it’s impossible to have two of the same NFTs. The metadata is usually accompanied by some JPEG art of an animal or, in Opulous’ case, an album cover or artist PFP.

What Is Opting-in, And Why Do It?

Opting in on Algorand allows an account/wallet to send and receive tokens and assets (NFTs) on the network. You must opt-in to send or receive Algo or other assets on the network and be able to stake or take part in other Algorand-based activities. Opting in is essential to access the full range of features and benefits of the Algorand blockchain.

Opt-ing in enables you to receive specific assets in your wallet. We operate on the Algorand blockchain and use Pera Wallet to store assets. You must opt-in or hold a Pera Wallet to receive your MFTs.

Pre Opt-in Checklist

Before opting in, it’s best practice to do some simple checks to ensure your opt-in succeeds the first time. Those checks are as follows.

Now that you’ve completed your pre-opt-in checks, let’s opt-in. See the steps below to learn how to do this.

How to Opt-in For NFTs Using Pera Wallet

Now let’s get into the step-by-step on opting for NFTs. You can find the list of NFT codes below the steps. Replace the section [[ADD NFT CODE]] with the NFT code without the square brackets.

STEP 1: Open your Pera wallet using your mobile device and select the account you want to opt-in with.

STEP 2: On the lower right-hand side of your screen, you’ll see a ‘+’. Select that and type in the following: [[ADD NFT CODE]].

STEP 3: You’ll see another ‘+’ button next to the NFT name in the list. All you have to do is select that ‘+’ button and then press ‘Approve’.
