Short answer

  • Electricity, natural gas, and centralised hot water and electricity: Set up direct debit in My Account or the Origin app or contact us.

  • Internet, LPG and accounts with debt payment plans:Contact us

  • If you want to pay by direct debit for more than one account, you'll need to set it up on each account

What you can do

Electricity, natural gas, and centralised hot water and electricity

  1. Go to the Payment settings screen in My Account or the Origin app

  2. Under Payment method, select Edit

  3. Choose how you'd like to pay (card or bank account), then select Continue

Origin My Account showing Choose a way to pay screen and payment options
  4. Add your payment details, then select Save [card/bank] details. The example below shows what you see when you add a debit or credit card. Card payment fees may apply.

Origin My Account Add a credit or debit card screen showing add credit card fields
  5. Read the confirmation screen and click Confirm to agree to the terms. You'll see a direct debit confirmation message.

  6. Select Done and the Payment settings screen displays your direct debit method and start date

Origin My Account Payment settings screen showing new direct debit confirmation example

What happens next?

  • Your direct debit takes four business days to become active, so make any changes at least five days before your next payment is due

  • We'll send your bills in advance so you can see the amount due and the due date before it's debited (on page 1 of your bill)

  • If you don't have a payment plan, we'll deduct the full amount due from your chosen card or bank account on your bill's due date

  • If you have a payment plan, we'll deduct the agreed amount in line with the payment frequency you chose

  • We'll send an SMS reminder three days before every direct debit transaction (unless you've opted out)

If you change your mind

You can change or cancel your direct debit whenever you like. Just allow four business days' notice. And, if you have a direct debit linked to a payment plan, allow 10 business days' notice.
