Short answer

  • Changing or cancelling direct debit can take up to four business days to become active, so make your change at least five days before your next payment is due

  • Electricity, natural gas, and centralised hot water and electricity: Change direct debit in My Account or the Origin app or contact us

  • Broadband, LPG and accounts with debt payment plans: Contact us

What you can do

Electricity, natural gas, and centralised hot water and electricity

Go to the Payment settings screen in My Account or the Origin app.

Change payment method

  1. Under Payment method, select Edit

  2. Choose how you'd like to pay, then select Continue. You can choose a payment that's already saved to your account or select a new payment method.

  3. If you're choosing a new payment method, add your payment details then select Save [card/bank] details. Card payment fees may apply.

  4. Read the terms and conditions that display, then select Confirm to agree. You'll see a direct debit confirmation message.

  5. Select Done and the Payment settings screen displays your direct debit method and start date

Update expiry date

If your card is due to expire soon or has expired, you'll see a link to update your expiry date in My Account. Select the link and follow the prompts to update your card details.

  3. Read the terms and conditions that display, then select Confirm to agree. You'll see a confirmation message.

If you’re cancelling to delay a payment, simply set up your direct debit again with the new payment date.

Important notes

Direct debit changes

  • We'll send an SMS reminder three days before every direct debit transaction (unless you've opted out)

  • We'll send your bills in advance so you can see the amount due and the due date before it's debited (on page 1 of your bill)

  • If you don't have a payment plan, we'll deduct the full amount due from your chosen card or bank account on your bill's due date

  • If you have a payment plan, we'll deduct the agreed amount in line with the payment frequency you chose

Direct debit cancellations

  • If direct debit is a condition of your plan, you won’t be able cancel it. Contact us for help.

  • If you have a payment due in the next few days, this may still be debited from your current card or bank account

  • Remember to pay future bills by the due date by paying another way
