0.24%

Mastercard debit card

NA

Card payment fee changes

Card payment fees changed on 1 July 2022 for payments made by Mastercard and Visa debit and credit cards. The changes apply to:

  • ACT, NSW and SA customers on standing and market contracts

  • QLD customers on market contracts, and QLD customers on gas standing contracts

  • Victorian customers on market contracts

  • WA customers on standing and market contracts.

We’ve updated these fees to reflect the cost of processing these transactions. The fees apply to most but not all customer groups, as some exclusions apply.

Notification of card payment fee changes

Affected customers will be notified of the fee changes with a message on their bill from 1 July 2022. You can find the current card payment fees at fees and charges and from 1 July 2022 you’ll see the new fee percentage amounts.

Exclusions to card payment fee changes

The card payment fee changes on 1 July 2022 don’t apply to:

  • customers registered for life support, hardship or concession,

  • customers on a financial assistance plan (e.g. our Power On program)

There are also other excluded customer groups which may apply:

  • tender or multi-site business customers

  • hot water customers

  • unmetered gas supply customers

  • customers on fee-free products i.e. Origin Value and Origin Freedom

  • customers in the Goondiwindi cross-border region

  • customers with a collective ‘parent’ bill

If you’re in Queensland, electricity customers on standing offers won’t be charged card fees for payments made by Visa or Mastercard.

If you’re a Victorian customer on a standard retail contract, the fee changes won’t apply to you due to state regulations.

NT customers are excluded.

When do fees usually change?

We change our fees occasionally and will let you know when we do. Fees include GST unless otherwise specified.
