Origin’s energy plans generally have a 12 or 24-month term. Under energy regulations, we must notify you ahead of time to let you know your energy plan is ending.
You can choose a new energy plan from our available plans at any time – you don’t have to wait until your plan ends to switch. There are no exit fees, so you can change plans whenever you like.

Do I have to renew my plan?
Short answer is no, but it could be advantageous to you to renew, or to compare plans and then renew. Here's why.
By comparing and choosing a new plan before your existing plan ends, you may find a more competitive offer than the plan or agreement you would otherwise roll on to, which we tell you about in your renewal notification or end-of-plan notice.
See our available plans at Compare energy plans.

In Victoria, you’ll receive an end-of-plan notice before you plan ends. If you have:
natural gas, we’ll explain that you’ll roll onto our standing agreement when your existing plan ends. This is a standard retail contract, which is a no-frills plan.
electricity, we’ll explain that you’ll roll onto the Victorian Default Offer, set by Victoria’s Essential Services Commission. This is also a standard retail contract.

Victorian Default Offer, Default Market Offer, reference price – what do these terms mean?
Victorian Default Offer, Default Market Offer, reference price – what do these terms mean?
When we advertise electricity plans, we’re required by law to compare our prices to a benchmark price set by the government.
In ACT, this is known as the reference price
In NSW, SA and parts of QLD, this is the Default Market Offer (DMO) or reference price
In Victoria, it’s the Victorian Default Offer (VDO) or VDO reference price
All offers are compared against these benchmark prices. The idea is that all energy providers use the same benchmark prices, so you can easily weigh up one plan against another when you’re shopping around.
