FAQs

What is the best time to contract with Origin Zero?

Many customers reasonably believe the best time to contract is when prices are low, but there are other ways to secure a low price. If you plan appropriately, you don’t need to wait until your contract ends.

We recommend you recontract a few months before your contract ends. Giving yourself time before your contract ends allows you to assess pricing and terms, and it gives us time to better plan supply and pass those efficiencies to you.

What contract type might suit my large business needs?

Buying energy for your business can seem overwhelming, but there are several things to consider that can help you along this process. Two key points are usually price certainty and energy efficiency.

Price certainty

Price certainty may be at the forefront of your energy contract decision and the market rate isn’t the only option.

In the current market, our Blend and Extend and Smoothed pricing options give or existing Origin customers a lower average rate with the extension of their existing contract. For new customers, our Smoothed prices lower your first-year rate and ‘smooths’ your price over a fixed term.

If you're concerned about market volatility, with Origin, you can fix a portion of your energy price over the mid to long-term, much like a home mortgage. With our Flexible Purchasing Product, we offer a fixed price for part of your electricity needs for a contract term that’s typically five or more years.

This can reduce your business’s exposure to future market volatility. If your contract requirements are different, talk to us and we’ll find a pricing structure that suits.

Energy efficiency

For longer-term savings and to help you to achieve lower carbon emissions, we can look at accessing solar or wind energy, either through rooftop installs or through Origin’s renewable portfolio. Electric vehicles may also suit your business, and our expert team can guide you through any requirements.

If you’re looking for immediate improvements, we’ll assess whether additional energy-efficient equipment can improve your energy use. For example, Power Factor Correction units may help improve the life of your existing machinery and if you already have solar energy, we can chat about energy storage to keep your business running.

I'm terminating my Origin Zero contract before it ends – are there costs?

This depends on a few variables. We'll need to access the following:

  • Are you moving to a new site/premises? What are the site details?

  • Do you know what is happening to the existing site? Is the new tenant interested in taking over your contract?

  • Do you have any other sites with Origin?

  • Do you have any sites with other retailers? Would you consider switching to Origin

Reach out to your account manager or email us to let us know your situation.
