Short answer
If there's no debt on your account, you can set up an ongoing energy use payment plan. To work out your instalments, we look at your past and predicted usage to estimate your total energy costs for the next year. We can then average out your payments over the frequency you prefer – weekly, fortnightly, or monthly.
Electricity and natural gas customers (with no debt on account): Set up your ongoing energy use payment plan in My Account. See What you can do in this article for instructions.
Broadband, LPG and centralised hot water and electricity customers (with no debt on account): Contact us
Any customer with debt: Contact us and we'll explain your payment plan options
What you can do
Electricity and natural gas customers (with no debt on account)
Open My Account or the Origin app.
From the dashboard, select Bills & payments for your chosen account
Select Payment settings
Under Payment frequency, select Edit
Select Payment plan then Continue
Choose your first payment date and how often you'd like to pay, then select Continue
Choose how you'd like to pay (card, bank account or manually), then select Continue.
If you already have direct debit in place and choose to pay manually, this automatically cancels your existing direct debit.
If you're paying by card, add your payment details then select Save [card/bank] details.
Read the confirmation screen and select Confirm to agree to the terms. The Payment settings screen displays your payment plan amount and start date. If you've chosen to pay your payment plan by direct debit, that will display as well.
Important notes
Payment plans take four business days to become active, so set up your plan at least five days before your bill is due
A payment plan is specific to one account. For example, if you want a payment plan for your natural gas account and your electricity account, you'll need to set up a payment plan for each account.
When your payment plan is set up, we’ll send you a payment schedule that shows the details of your payment plan
We regularly review ongoing energy use payment plans (with or without debt) and adjust them if needed to match your usage. We'll let you know in advance if your payment amount is going to change.
Ongoing energy use payment plans may change but they don’t expire
We’ll still send you your bills so you can see the amounts charged and payments made through your payment plan for the bill period
If you miss one payment, we'll send a reminder to let you know you need to pay the missed instalment before the next one is due. We may cancel your payment plan if you continue to miss payments.
