Game Tiers & Cross-Group Scheduling

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Full Admins, Schedulers, and Commissioners with permissions can now designate any grouping within a Seasonal Structure as a Game Tier, enabling broader cross-group scheduling and enhanced reporting. Once a Game Tier is set, the Scheduling Generator can be used to create games between teams across separate groupings within that tier—eliminating the need to place all competing teams in the same group. Teams from nested groupings can face each other, and the system will automatically generate combined standings tables at every level within the tier, providing greater scheduling flexibility and more complete season results. Multiple Game Tiers may be set within a season, though additional tiers cannot be nested within one another.

Setting Game Tiers

  1. From the navigation, select Programs, choose your program and season, then select the Scheduling tab.

  2. Click Edit at the season or any grouping level.

  3. Select Game Tier and select Set this grouping as a Game Tier to ON.

When setting Game Tiers:

  • If set at the season level: Setting this level as the Game Tier will generate a standings table to include all teams ranked against each other, as well as separate standings tables for all nested groupings within the seasonal structure. Setting the season level as the Game Tier will allow all teams to be considered as potential opponents to one another within the season.

  • If set at a grouping level, “parent” to other nested “child” groupings: Standings tables are generated at Game Tier levels, as well as separate standings tables for all nested child Groupings. Standings tables include all teams found beneath that level.

  • If set at the lowest level “child”, to all higher parent groupings: Games may be created only for teams who exist within the same “Game Tier” as each other, therefore setting this grouping as a Game Tier level will limit only these teams to potentially face each other, and cannot face teams from any other grouping in games during the season. Standings tables are generated at Game Tier levels; therefore, only one table will be generated for these teams.

4. Once complete, click Save. Groupings that are designated as Game Tiers will have a trophy icon displayed next to the grouping name on the Season Structure.

Manually Creating a Game when Game Tiers are Enabled

1. From the Game Schedules view, click on the mini menu and click Add Game.

2. When entering game details, click in the Grouping dropdown. Groupings that are Game Tiers will be denoted with a trophy icon.

3. Click on the Game Tier grouping and select any team within the tier as the home or away team.

4. Once complete, click Save.

Note: Once games have been created in a Game Tier, all games must be removed from the selected tier before it can be updated. Once a grouping has one or more games assigned within a game tier, teams cannot be moved to a different game tier under the Season Structure.

Creating Cross-Group Schedules

1. From the navigation, select Programs, locate your program from the list, and select your season. Next, choose Scheduling. In the Task dropdown menu, choose Create New Games.

2. On Step 1:Groupings, you can link any two groupings on the Scheduling Canvas that share the same Game Tier parent.

  • Note: If you haven't set a Game Tier, scroll above to the Setting Game Tiers heading.

3. Select Link Groupings to link two groupings together. Once linked, if you wish to unlink groupings, click on the chain icon to break the groupings apart.

4. Once the scheduling canvas is set, click Next.

5. Under Scheduling Options, choose if teams Play all opponents in the SAME grouping equally? Y/N

  • If Yes, choose the times each of the opponents is played per team in the SAME grouping

  • If No, input the number of games per team in the SAME grouping.

6. Next, choose if teams Play all opponents in the OTHER grouping equally? Y/N

  • If Yes, choose the times each of the opponents are played per team in the OTHER grouping.

  • If No, input the number of games per team in the OTHER grouping.

7. As selections are made, the number of Matchup Legs and Total games will populate.

8. If you wish to re-seed any teams, under Game Grouping Seedings, use the arrow icon adjacent to each team to drag and drop them into place.

9. A preview of the Game Matchups will display based on the Scheduling Options that have been selected. Click on each leg to see a preview of the matchups.

10. Once complete, select Locations to proceed to the next step.

Once you reach Step 3: Locations, the game creation process continues as usual. From here, you can either use the Schedule Generator to create games with assigned dates, times, and locations, or the Matchup Generator if your organization allows club admins or team staff to finalize game details after matchups are created. (See the Locations heading in each of the links above for more details.)

Viewing Standings Tables when Game Tiers are Enabled

Standings tables will be automatically generated for all groupings within designated Game Tiers, allowing teams across related groupings to be ranked together. The system will calculate standings at each Game Tier level and below, consolidating game results from all associated teams. Tiebreakers will either follow each grouping’s specific settings or inherit a unified set from the Game Tier if needed for simplicity.

To view the Standings Table for a Game Tier, go to Results, select the Game Tier from the Season Structure, then choose Seasonal Standings from the Report menu.
