Full Admins, Schedulers, and Commissioners with permissions can input placeholder teams for either home or away teams when creating or managing game events. Entering placeholder team names for either the home or away team when creating a game eliminates the need to select an existing seasonal team. This enhancement makes it easier to track games against external opponents who are not in the system and schedule knock-out round matchups when advancing teams are yet to be determined. Use the guide below for more information on using placeholder teams:
Adding a Placeholder Team to a Game
1. From the navigation, select Programs > choose your program and season > Scheduling. Navigate to Game Schedules using the Report menu.
2. Click on the mini menu and select Add Game.
3. On the Add Game Event view, fill in the required game details, then click the pencil icon next to the home or away team to write in a placeholder team name. If the home or away team is a system team, use the drop-down menu to choose an existing team.
4. Input the remaining game details as necessary and click Save once complete.
Editing a Game with Placeholder Teams
1. Go to the Game Schedules view and locate the game you wish to edit.
2. Select the Edit Game button adjacent to the game.
3. Edit the teams (existing system team or placeholder team) or any other game details as necessary. Click Save once complete.
Note: Existing teams will be selected using a dropdown menu; write-in teams are manually entered into the text box.
View Placeholder Team Names for Games on the Mobile App
As games with placeholder teams are created for the season, you can easily view all team names for any game event, whether they are system teams or placeholder/write-in team names. With recent upgrades to support placeholder teams, event details within the mobile app will seamlessly display team names as before, ensuring consistency and clarity for all team members.

System Behaviors when using Placeholder Teams
If using placeholder team names, the following behaviors will take place in the system:
Games with Placeholder Teams are not reflected in standings tables or the Standings widget
Placeholder Teams on the Schedule widget and Team widget will not be displayed as links
Placeholder Teams will not be displayed as links in the Game Schedule section on the Team Page or the Referees product
Game Reports will not populate Placeholder Team Info (players, staff, etc.)
When creating or editing a game, the system conflict engine will ignore matches with Placeholder Teams
