How Do I Set Up and Manage Team Standings for My Season?

Configure your season's standings with custom columns, ranking criteria, and tiebreakers. Control visibility at the season or grouping level, and standings update automatically as games are scored, viewable on Team Pages, reports, and public widgets.

Full Admins, Schedulers, and Commissioners (with permission) can configure custom tiebreakers and ranking criteria at season or grouping levels to display the current competitive position for all teams in a group. As games are scored throughout the season, standings update automatically so team members can see where their team ranks.

Configuring Standings Columns

Choose which columns appear on your standings tables and in what order.

1. From the navigation, select Programs > choose your program/ season > Scheduling.

2. Next, select Results > the Edit button at the season level > Standings.

  • Note: Standings can also be configured at the grouping level. Settings at the grouping level will override anything inherited from the season above it.

3. Under Standings Presentation, turn on Set Columns for Seasonal Standings Tables. Select which columns to display and drag them into your preferred order.

Configuring Rankings & Tiebreakers

Set the criteria that determine how teams are ranked within a group.

  1. From the navigation, select Programs > choose your program/ season > Scheduling.

  2. Next, select Results > the edit button at the season level > Standings.

    • Note: You can also set standings at the grouping level by clicking the edit button at that level. If rankings are configured at the grouping level, the configurations set at that level will override any settings inherited from the grouping or season above it.

  3. Under the Rankings view, drag and drop tiebreaker options into order of importance. This order will determine team rankings for the group as games are played and scored. By default, all seasons start with Total Points in the ranking order.

  4. Click Save when complete. Rankings can be modified at any time. Standings will automatically recalculate.

Tiebreaker Options

Total Points

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of points to date during the season.

  • Always selected by default, and is based on the system default of 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and zero points for a loss.

Most Wins

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of wins to date during the season.

Least Losses

  • Ranks teams based on the fewest losses to date during the season

Head to Head

  • When two or more teams are ranked equally through all preceding tiebreakers, the system will then additionally re-run the same preceding criteria again, for just those teams, and only for the games they have faced each other to date for the season.

  • If still tied, then any additional tiebreakers following Head to Head are then included to continue trying to separate those teams.

  • If tied teams have not played the same number of games, head-to-head will be skipped, and the system will move on to the next tiebreaker.

Goal Differential

  • The total value of goals a team has scored, minus the number of goals that have been scored against them, during the season.

Most Goals Scored

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of goals they have scored to date for the season.

Most Goals Scored - Away

  • Ranks teams based on the total number of goals they have scored while being classified as the ‘Away’ team to date during the season.

Least Goals Conceded

  • Ranks teams based on the fewest number of goals scored against them to date during the season.

Least Goals Conceded - Home

  • Ranks teams based on the fewest number of goals scored against them while being classified as the ‘Home’ team to date during the season.

5. You can re-order seasonal ranking options by dragging and dropping them to change the criteria priority sequence.

As ranking and tie-breaking criteria are set, the system will calculate division/grouping standings based on these settings in priority order. This order can be modified anytime during the season, and the standings will be recalculated.

Controlling Standings Visibility

The visibility of the standings table will depend on a few factors, including having game schedules viewable to team members and some system triggers. Standings can also be hidden from Team Pages at the entire season or grouping levels to allow flexibility where scores might not be recorded for the season or in scenarios where results aren’t displayed for certain groups.

To hide/show standings at the season level:

  1. In the navigation, select Programs > choose your program/season > Scheduling.

  2. Next, select Results > the Edit button at the season level > Standings

How Standings Are First Calculated

Standings begin calculating in one of two ways:

  1. Modifying or reordering the tiebreaker options will trigger the system to begin calculating rankings for teams.

  2. Submitting a score for any game in a group starts the calculation based on the seasonal ranking order.

Where to View Standings

Team Pages:

  • Info tab: A mini standings view appears above the Rostered Staff section

  • Reports tab: Select Seasonal Standings from the Report dropdown

As games are scored, the teams in the group will be ranked by the system based on the seasonal ranking order criteria. A breakdown of the column headers in the rankings table can be found in the Seasonal Standings Column Option Overview.

Standings available to team members via the Info tab:

Scheduling:

  • Navigate to Scheduling > Results, open the season structure, and select Seasonal Standings from the Report dropdown at the lowest grouping level.

As game scores are entered throughout the season, the rankings will update, allowing all team members to see where their team ranks against others.

Note: The Seasonal Standings Report will not display for those seasons or groupings with Standings disabled.

Configuring Standings for the Public Widget

When setting up the Public Standings Widget, column configuration is available during Step 3 — Configure Standings. Select which standings columns to display and arrange them in your preferred order.

System Tip: For programs designated as soccer, lacrosse, hockey, baseball, or softball, scoring terminology will automatically reflect the vocabulary used in that sport. The designation is selected when creating a program and can be changed at any time under Program > choose your program > Program Info > Edit Info.
