How Do I Name or Rename a Chat on the Mobile App?

Give your group chats a custom name so they’re easy to identify, especially when you’re part of multiple conversations. Any chat participant can add or edit a chat name at any time.

When you’re part of multiple conversations, it can be hard to tell chats apart, especially when they involve similar groups of people. Custom chat names make it easy to identify the purpose of a conversation at a glance.

Any participant in an eligible chat can add or edit a custom name. Custom names display in the chat list, within the conversation, and when accessing the chat from the Team View.

Note: The Team Wall and Staff Wall are system-defined conversations and cannot be renamed. These names are fixed regardless of your role.

How to Name a Chat

  1. Open the chat you want to name from your Messages tab or Team View.

  2. Tap the edit icon at the top of the conversation.

  3. Enter your custom name and tap Save.

The custom name will immediately appear in the chat list, within the conversation, and in the Team View.

How to Edit an Existing Chat Name

Any participant in the chat can update the name at any time.

  1. Open the chat.

  2. Tap the edit icon at the top of the conversation.

  3. Enter a new chat name.

  4. Update the name and tap Save.

Changes are reflected immediately across the chat list, the conversation view, and the Team View for all participants.

Good to Know

  • If a participant leaves or is removed from the chat, they can no longer rename it.

  • Removing a participant does not reset or remove the existing custom chat name.

  • Custom names appear consistently across the chat list, the conversation, and the Team View.

  • Chats without a custom name continue using the default naming behavior; nothing changes for unnamed chats.

  • Naming or renaming a chat does not affect participants, message history, or create a duplicate conversation.

  • Team Wall and Staff Wall cannot be renamed. No rename option will appear for these system-defined conversations.
