In an active team or staff chat, a reply to a specific message can easily get buried. Threads keep related replies together under the original message, so the main conversation stays easy to follow.
Anyone who can send messages in a chat can reply in a thread. No extra setup or permissions are required.
How to Reply to a Message in a Thread
Open the chat that contains the message you want to reply to.
Long-press the message.
From the message menu, tap Reply in Thread.
The thread opens, showing the original message and any existing replies. Type your reply and send it.
Your reply appears in the thread, not in the main conversation.

Viewing a Thread
When a message has replies, the number of replies appears under the original message, for example, “3 replies.” Tap the reply count to open the thread.
Inside a thread:
The original message appears at the top, followed by its replies in chronological order.
Reply counts update in real time as replies are added or deleted.
The count only includes active replies, so deleted replies are not counted.
What You Can Do in a Thread
Threads support the same message features as the rest of the chat, including text, attachments, and reactions, where those are available in the chat.
One level only: Threads support a single level of replies. You can reply to a message in a thread, but you can’t start a new thread from a reply.
Notifications
Thread replies send push notifications the same way other chat messages do, and your notification preferences still apply. The notification identifies the message as a reply. Tap it to open the thread. If the thread can’t be opened, the main conversation opens instead.
Good to Know
Replies stay out of the main conversation. On updated versions of the app, thread replies appear only in the thread. The original message shows the reply count.
If the original message is deleted, the thread’s replies are kept, and a placeholder appears in place of the original.
Existing messages are unaffected. Messages sent before threads were available work as they always have.
