Once you've built a filter combination in the Signal Feed, you can save it as a reusable segment and connect it to automated actions via Playbooks.
Saving a Segment
Build your filter rules in the Signal Feed.
Click Save Segment in the top right.
Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "50K+ Influencers – IG, TikTok, YouTube").
Optionally add a description, then click Create.
Your saved segments appear in the Signal Feed sidebar for one-click access anytime.
Naming tip: Be specific. "50K+ Influencers – IG, TikTok, YouTube" is much more useful than "Influencer Segment" when you or your teammates come back to it later.
Connecting Segments to Playbooks
Playbooks automate actions for customers in your saved segments. Here's the typical workflow:
Go to Playbooks and click Create Playbook.
Select your saved segment.
Choose an action:
Klaviyo Tag — Tags matching customers in Klaviyo so you can trigger email/SMS flows.
Shopify Tag — Pushes tags to Shopify customer profiles.
Slack Notification — Sends real-time alerts when a new customer matches.
Toggle Run for Existing Members if you want the action applied to customers already in the segment (not just future matches). This is recommended in most cases, except for Slack.
Click Create Playbook.
From that point forward, any new customer who matches your segment criteria will automatically receive the action.
Example: Influencer Outreach via Klaviyo
Here's a real workflow we've helped brands set up:
Filter: Social Media Followers > 50,000 on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Save Segment: "50K+ Influencers – IG, TikTok, YouTube"
Create Playbook: Klaviyo Tag → "influencer-50k-ig-tiktok-youtube" with Run for Existing Members toggled on.
In Klaviyo: Create a segment using "properties about someone" → "outersignal_tags" → contains the text → "influencer-50k-ig-tiktok-youtube." Build your outreach email flow targeting that segment. (See Building Klaviyo Segments with OuterSignal Data for a full walkthrough.)
New influencer customers are automatically tagged and entered into the flow — no manual work required.
Streaming Data for Broader Segmentation
For long-tail email segmentation (not tied to a specific segment), you can use the Stream action in Playbooks. This pushes age, gender, and persona data for your entire customer base to their Klaviyo profiles, letting you:
Build persona-specific email campaigns
Segment by gender or age range
Create multiple versions of flows tailored to different customer types
To set this up: Create a Playbook → select All Customers → Add First Action → Klaviyo → choose Klaviyo Stream as the action → Select All Available Fields
