How to add a Menu Item
Updated over a week ago

Menus are a great solution for helping readers navigate around a document, highlighting important pages or information, and linking related documents together creating a microsite. A number of different Menu 'Item Types' are available to choose from, which are buttons that perform different tasks when clicked on from a menu.

How to add a Menu Item

Once a new menu has been added and saved a 'Menu Structure' will display. A new menu item can be added by selecting the 'Add New' button. The below section looks at each Menu Item Type available and how to use it.

Menu Item Types

Submenu

Submenus reveal their content when the reader hovers their mouse over it or taps it on their touchscreen device. They're a great way to sort or organise the items in your menu. For example - you may have a Submenu called 'Newsletters', which contains links to the newsletters you have created each month.

If nothing has been added into a submenu, it will not display on the menu.

Document Link

This Menu Item Type will open another document that has been created in your account. It's a great way to link related documents together.

💡 If your documents are a part of a suite of related documents, remember to apply the menu to all of them to ensure they're all linked together.

Version Link

When used, this Menu Item Type will open another version that has been created in your account. It's the ideal solution if you have a related versions that you would like your readers to view.

💡 If your version is unpublished but you want to test your menu, select the 'Temporary Link 'checkbox to open a temporary link for the version.

Web Link URL

When selected, this Menu Item Type will open a website of your choice in either the current or new browser tab. A new browser tab is the recommended option here so your reader doesn't lose where they are in your PageTiger document.

Ensure the link used includes https:// - for example https://www.pagetiger.com/

Jump to page

Help readers navigate around your document by linking to a specific page number. It's a great option for encouraging engagement from your readers, as it makes easier for them to see what's available in your document and what may interest them.

This option should only be used to navigate around the same document.

Search

Although the option to 'Search' can be added to a Document Toolbar (set within a 'Style'), it may be easier for readers to navigate to it from a Menu. Simply choose the option from the drop-down list to add to your menu.

This option will search the Document currently being viewed, not those linked to from the Menu.

Activate Interactivity

Paste in the 'Interactivity ID' of a piece of interactivity so it will activate when the Menu item is selected. This is a great option if you have a piece of Interactivity that you want to make available from the Menu - for example, a contact form or a More Information pop-up box containing contact details.

The 'Interactivity ID' can be found in the the 'Settings' palette within TigerDesigner. Simply copy and paste into the 'Interactivity ID' field for the 'Activate Interactivity' Menu Item type.
