How to transition your dog to Pawy fresh food

The 7-day switch, day by day, plus a 10-day schedule for sensitive stomachs, how to serve Pawy, and what to do if your dog hesitates or has soft stools.

7 dogs out of 10 love Pawy right away, on day one. With the right method and a little patience, almost all dogs make the switch.

Pawy is made with fresh meat and 100% natural ingredients, so it looks, smells and digests differently from dry food. A gradual switch keeps the first week comfortable.

The 7-day transition

  • Day 1 and 2: 25% Pawy, 75% current food

  • Day 3 and 4: 50% Pawy, 50% current food

  • Day 5 and 6: 75% Pawy, 25% current food

  • Day 7: 100% Pawy

From day 7, feed the daily amount shown on the personalised sheet in your box, split across two meals, morning and evening.

Sensitive stomach? Take 10 days

  • Day 1 to 3: 25% Pawy, 75% current food

  • Day 4 to 6: 50% Pawy, 50% current food

  • Day 7 to 9: 75% Pawy, 25% current food

  • Day 10: 100% Pawy

Serving Pawy

Serve it the way your dog likes it. Straight from the fridge is fine for most dogs. For a picky eater, warming the meal to lukewarm or body temperature releases the aroma and often makes all the difference.

  • 15 to 30 seconds in the microwave, or 1 minute poached at 80°C

  • Never heat above 80°C

  • Stir before serving, and only warm the portion your dog will eat right away

Keep meal times consistent. Same times every day. Leave the bowl down for 30 minutes maximum, then take it away even if your dog has not finished. The next meal comes at the next scheduled time.

Why the gram amount looks so big

Fresh food is 3 to 4 times less calorie-dense than dry food because it contains real moisture. The number of grams on your personalised sheet will be much higher than what you scooped from a bag. That is expected, and it is the correct amount for your dog.

Storing meals during the mixing week

  • Sealed meals keep 7 days in the fridge at around 4°C, or up to 4 months in the freezer.

  • Once opened, finish within 3 days, kept sealed and refrigerated.

  • Do not refreeze once the sealed bag has been opened.

If your dog is hesitant

  1. Rotate the recipes. We have 4. Chicken and Pork are the clear favourites with dogs, then Beef and Fish.

  2. Warm the meal slightly. Cold food holds its aroma in.

  3. Hand-feed a few pieces. This often gets the first mouthful down.

  4. Add a very small amount of broth.

  5. Cut out treats completely. They are the single biggest cause of picky eating.

  6. Hold the feeding schedule. Fixed times, 30-minute window, no free grazing.

  7. Speak to your vet if the fussiness persists.

If your dog's stools are soft in the first days

Softer stools during a diet change are common and usually settle on their own. Studies show a dog's gut microbiome can take up to 21 days to fully adapt to a new diet, so give the change time before concluding it is not working.

If things do not settle:

  • Slow down. Move to the 10-day schedule, or add just an extra spoonful of Pawy per day.

  • Add cooked white rice for a few days, cooked about twice as long as usual so it is very soft.

  • Consider a probiotic for around 20 days.

  • Try another recipe. A lighter protein sometimes suits a sensitive dog better.
