Create Custom Boundaries with the Draw Filter

In this article, you will learn how to open Draw from the Filters menu or Location column, draw an inclusion or exclusion shape, and save a custom boundary.

What the Draw filter does

Use Draw to create custom boundary shapes on the map so your results match the exact area you want.

With Draw, you can:

  • Include listings inside a boundary using Inclusion.

  • Remove listings inside a boundary using Exclusion.

  • Draw shapes as a Polygon or a Circle.

Open Draw

Open Draw from either location. Both options open the same tool.

From the Filters menu:

  1. Navigate to the Search page.

  2. Switch to the Filters tab.

Follow the steps below after you open Draw.

  1. Position the map:

    • Drag the pin to expand the Map, or

    • Enter an address

  2. Choose a shape:

    • Select Polygon, or

    • Select Circle.

  3. Choose how the boundary affects results:

    • Select Inclusion to show listings inside the shape, or

    • Select Exclusion to remove listings inside the shape.

  4. Draw your shape:

    • Polygon: Click the map to place points, then continue clicking to outline your shape.

    • Circle (draw on the map): Click once to set the center point, move your cursor to adjust the radius, then click again to set the size.

    • Circle (enter a radius): Enter a radius value, then click the map to set the center point.

  5. Click Save Custom Boundary.

After you click Save Custom Boundary, results update automatically.

💡 Enter an address first to quickly center the map before you draw.

Boundary types (Inclusion vs. Exclusion)

Choose the option below based on what you want to see on the map.

  • Inclusion Polygon: Draw a custom shape. Listings inside the boundary appear in your results.

  • Inclusion Circle: Set a center point, then drag to adjust the radius or enter a radius value. Listings inside the boundary appear in your results.

  • Exclusion Polygon: Draw a custom shape. Listings inside the boundary are removed from your results.

  • Exclusion Circle: Set a center point, then drag to adjust the radius or enter a radius value. Listings inside the boundary are removed from your results.

💡 Use Inclusion to target a neighborhood. Use Exclusion to remove nearby areas that do not match your client’s criteria.

Tips

  • Combine boundaries with other filters like price, beds, and status.

  • Create multiple Inclusion and Exclusion shapes in the same search.

  • Redraw or clear boundaries any time.

  • Center the map before you draw to improve accuracy.
