When your body is relaxed and comfortable, it releases oxytocin and prolactin, essential hormones for milk production. If you experience discomfort or pain, it can affect your milk production.
If you feel pain or discomfort in your nipple:
Ensure you are using the correct flange size by consulting this article.
Lubricate your nipple or the nipple tunnel with a few drops of vegetable oil, such as coconut or olive oil, or even a drop of your own milk.
Reduce the pump's intensity. Find the highest level that is comfortable for you!
If you don’t feel sufficient suction:
Adjust the pressure your bra applies to the pump or try different bras if needed. It’s important that your pump is well supported, but it should not be so tight that it compresses the milk ducts and restricts milk flow.
If you notice a red mark after the session, try adjusting the pressure of your bra using the strap extender provided with the Perifit pump, which is compatible with most nursing bras. Try finding the correct position by holding the pump with your hand, then adjust the bra’s compression on your breast to mimic the sensation you had when holding it by hand.
Check your nipple alignment by watching this video. Make sure not to start the pump until it is properly positioned on your breast. We recommend positioning the pump first and then turning it on.
