Overview

If you're migrating from another loyalty system, you can import your customers into Perkstar and preserve their existing reward balances. This guide covers how the balance field in the CSV import template works for each card type, so your customers continue enjoying their benefits without interruption.

For general import instructions, see How to import and export customer data.

Stamp card

  1. Download the import template from the Customers section.

  2. Fill in customer details and enter the number of stamps you want to assign to each customer in the Balance column.

  3. Upload the file, select the Stamp Card template, and click Import.

When the customer installs their card, they'll immediately see their assigned stamps. For example, entering 2 in the balance column means the customer starts with 2 collected stamps.

Note: Leave fields blank if certain details are not available. Do not delete columns.

Cashback card

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details and enter the cashback point balance in the Balance column.

  3. Upload the file, select the Cashback Card template, and click Import.

The assigned points represent bonus funds the customer can use toward future purchases. When they install the card, they'll immediately see their available balance.

Discount card

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details. In the Balance column, enter the customer's total qualifying spend amount (not points).

  3. Upload the file, select the Discount Card template, and click Import.

The system uses the spend amount to assign the appropriate discount tier based on the thresholds you configured when creating the card. For example, if your 10% tier starts at $3,000, entering 3,000 or more in the balance column places the customer directly on that tier.

Reward card

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details and enter the number of points in the Balance column if you want to assign an existing point balance.

  3. Upload the file, select the Reward Card template, and click Import.

The assigned points count toward reward tiers, so customers can immediately start redeeming rewards if they have enough points.

Gift card

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details and enter the gift card balance in the Balance column β€” this is the amount the customer can spend on products or services.

  3. Upload the file, select the Gift Card template, and click Import.

When the customer installs the card, they'll immediately see their available balance and can use it for payment.

Coupon card

There is generally no need to import customers for a Coupon card, since coupons are designed to attract new customers rather than manage existing ones.

However, if you do want to import customers for a coupon card:

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details. Leave the Balance column blank β€” the coupon's value is predetermined by the "Reward for first visit" field in the card settings and cannot be changed through the CSV file.

  3. Upload the file, select the Coupon Card template, and click Import.

Membership card

  1. Download the import template.

  2. Fill in customer details. We recommend leaving the Balance column blank β€” membership cards automatically place customers on the first tier, and the balance is determined by that tier's settings. Entering a different value in the CSV will not override the tier balance.

  3. Upload the file, select the Membership Card template, and click Import.

Multipass card

You can import customers and issue Multipass cards, but it is not currently possible to import them with an existing visit balance. Visits can only be added in two ways:

  • Manually from the customer's profile in your dashboard

  • By scanning the customer's card with the Scanner app

Bulk uploading visit balances for Multipass cards is not supported at this time.

FAQs

What does the Balance column mean for each card type?

It depends on the card type: stamps for stamp cards, bonus points for cashback and reward cards, spend amount for discount cards, and monetary balance for gift cards. For coupon and membership cards, leave it blank.

Can I import more than 20,000 customers?

Not in a single file. Split your list into batches of 20,000 and import them separately

.

What happens if I leave the Balance column blank?

The customer is imported with a zero balance. They'll start fresh when they install the card.

Can I assign visits to Multipass cards during import?

No. Visit balances must be added manually from the customer's profile or through the Scanner app after import.

Will customers see their balance immediately after installing the card?

Yes. Whatever balance you assign in the CSV file will be visible on the customer's card as soon as they install it.
