How to use the Multi-Reward Card Designer

Create a perfectly aligned background image for your multi-reward stamp card in minutes — no design skills needed.

Overview

The Multi-Reward Card Designer is a free tool that generates the background image needed for stamp cards with multiple rewards. Instead of manually designing the image in a graphics editor, this tool positions your reward milestones exactly where the stamps sit on your card — so everything lines up perfectly when uploaded.

Access the designer at design.perkstar.co.uk

Note: This tool is desktop only and does not work on mobile devices. If you open it on a mobile device, you'll see a message asking you to switch to a desktop.

What is a multi-reward stamp card?

A standard stamp card has one reward at the end (e.g., 10 stamps = free coffee). A multi-reward card has several rewards along the way — for example, a 10-stamp card might give rewards at stamps 3, 6, and 10.

The challenge is that multi-reward cards don't automatically show what each reward is on the card itself. You need a custom background image that visually shows each reward at the correct stamp position. That's what this tool creates for you.

Before you start

  • Desktop or laptop required — You'll need to download files and upload them to your Perkstar card settings, which works best on a larger screen

  • Have your card plan ready — Decide how many stamps your card will have and which stamps will be reward milestones

  • Know your rewards — Decide what each milestone reward will be (e.g., free item, discount, bonus points)

Using the designer

Step 1: Set your stamp count

Open the designer and find the Card Setup panel on the left. Use the - and + buttons or type directly into the number field to set how many stamps your card has (1 to 30).

The stamp grid in the preview updates automatically to show the correct layout. The designer uses the exact same stamp positions as your Perkstar card:

  • 1 to 5 stamps — Single row

  • 6 to 15 stamps — 2 rows

  • 16 to 30 stamps — 3 rows

When a row has fewer stamps than the one above (e.g., a 9-stamp card has 5 in the top row and 4 in the bottom), the shorter row is automatically centred.

Step 2: Set your milestones

In the Set Milestones panel, you'll see a visual grid of all your stamps. Click any stamp to toggle it as a reward milestone. Milestone stamps turn red with a star icon, and the count updates (e.g., "3 milestones set").

Click a milestone stamp again to remove it. You can set as many or as few milestones as you like.

Tip: Common setups include rewards at every 3rd stamp (3,6,9), at the halfway point and end (5,10), or at thirds (4,8,12).

Step 3: Customise the design

The Customize Design panel has several sections. The defaults work well, but every element is customisable.

Background

  • Background Color — Click the colour swatch to open a colour picker, type a hex code directly, or click one of the 16 preset colours. The default is a dark navy (#1a1a2e)

  • Background Image — Optionally upload your own image (e.g., a branded pattern, texture, or photo). The image scales to cover the entire background. Click Remove to go back to a solid colour

Regular stamps

These are the non-milestone stamp positions — the placeholder circles that show where stamps will go.

  • Outline Color — The border colour of regular stamp circles. Default is a subtle white at 40% opacity

  • Fill Color — The inside colour of regular stamp circles. Default is nearly transparent white (8% opacity), giving them a subtle glass-like appearance

Milestone design

This controls how your reward milestones look. Changes here apply to all milestones by default.

  • Shape — Choose from circle (default round shape), badge (scalloped/wavy edge like an award badge), or square (rounded square)

  • Fill Color — The background colour inside milestone stamps. Default is red (#e74c3c)

  • Outline Color — The border colour of milestone stamps. Default is a darker red (#c0392b)

  • Icon — Choose an icon to display inside each milestone (see the "Choosing icons" section below)

  • Label Text — Text displayed above the icon inside the milestone (e.g., "GIFT", "FREE", "20% OFF"). Maximum 20 characters. The text automatically shrinks if it's too wide to fit

  • Text & Icon Color — The colour of both the label text and the icon. Default is white

  • Font Size — Drag the slider to adjust text size (8px to 28px). The text also scales automatically based on stamp size, so smaller stamps will have proportionally smaller text

Per-milestone overrides

If you have 2 or more milestones, an additional section appears that lets you customise each milestone individually. For example, stamp 3 could say "SNACK" with a cookie icon, while stamp 10 says "FREE" with a gift icon.

  1. Click on the milestone entry (e.g., "Stamp 3") to expand it.

  2. Change the label text, icon, or fill colour.

  3. An amber asterisk (*) appears next to milestones that have been customised.

To reset a milestone back to the defaults, expand it and click Reset to defaults.

Step 4: Preview and download

The Preview & Export panel on the right shows a live preview of your card background. Every change you make updates the preview instantly.

When you're happy with the design, click Download Card Kit. This downloads a ZIP file called perkstar-multi-reward-card.zip containing:

  • card-background.png — Your reward roadmap background image (1125 x 432 pixels)

  • inactive-stamp.png — A transparent stamp image (200 x 200 pixels)

  • setup-guide.txt — Step-by-step setup instructions

Below the download button, you'll also see the Multi Rewards value (e.g., 5,10) — this is the exact value you'll need to enter in your card settings.

Choosing icons

The designer includes over 130 icons organised into 10 categories:

  • Rewards — Gift, Star, Trophy, Crown, Medal, Ticket (any business)

  • Coffee & Tea — Coffee cup, Coffee bean, Tea bag, Mug (cafes, tea rooms)

  • Food — Pizza, Hamburger, Cookie, Cake, Ice cream, Croissant (restaurants, bakeries)

  • Drinks — Wine, Beer bottle, Martini, Champagne (bars, pubs, cocktail bars)

  • Beauty & Wellness — Scissors, Comb, Hair dryer, Flower, Bathtub (salons, spas)

  • Fitness & Sport — Barbell, Running, Cycling, Sneaker, Basketball (gyms, sports clubs)

  • Pets & Animals — Paw print, Dog, Cat, Fish, Bird, Bone (pet groomers, vets)

  • Automotive — Car, Gas pump, Wrench, Tyre, Steering wheel (car washes, garages)

  • Shopping & Retail — Shopping bag, Tag, Percent, Storefront, Wallet (shops, boutiques)

  • General — Thumbs up, Heart, Smiley, Check, Rocket (any business)

Selecting an icon

  1. Click the icon button (shows current selection or "Choose an icon...").

  2. Browse categories by clicking the category pills at the top, or type in the search box to find icons by name.

  3. Click an icon to select it.

  4. Click the x button to remove the icon entirely.

Uploading your own icon

  1. Open the icon picker.

  2. Scroll to the bottom and click Upload custom icon.

  3. Select a PNG, JPEG, or SVG file from your computer.

  4. Your uploaded icon replaces the selected library icon.

Setting up your card in Perkstar after downloading

The ZIP file includes a detailed setup guide, but here's a summary. For the full walkthrough, see How to set up a stamp card with multiple rewards.

Step 1: Upload the background image

Navigate to Cards, select your stamp card, and go to the Design tab. Find Background under stamps and upload card-background.png.

Step 2: Upload the transparent inactive stamp

In the same Design tab, find Inactive stamp image and upload inactive-stamp.png. This makes unearned stamp positions invisible so your reward roadmap shows through.

Step 3: Set the active stamp

Choose an icon from the dropdown or upload your own image for the active stamp. This is what appears when a customer earns a stamp — use something bold and visible.

Step 4: Set colours to transparent

In the Colors section, set both Stamp Background and Outline Color to #0000 (transparent).

Important: Without this step, your background image will be hidden behind the default stamp colours and your milestones won't be visible.

Step 5: Enter your milestone values

Go to the Information tab, find Multi rewards, and enter your milestone stamp numbers separated by commas with no spaces. Use the exact value shown in the designer (e.g., 3,6,10).

Step 6: Describe your rewards

In the Information tab, enable Terms of use and list what each milestone reward gives the customer. For example:

  • 3 stamps = Free cookie

  • 6 stamps = 20% off any item

  • 10 stamps = Free meal for two

Important: The front of the card only shows "Available rewards: 1" — it doesn't display the reward name. The Terms of Use is the only place customers can see what each reward actually is.

Step 7: Preview and save

Check the card preview to make sure everything looks right, then save your changes.

FAQs

Why can't I see my background image on the card?

The most common reason is that the stamp background and outline colours haven't been set to transparent. Go to your card's Design tab, find the Colors section, and set both Stamp Background and Outline Color to #0000.

Can I use this on my phone or tablet?

No. The designer is desktop only. If you open it on a mobile device, you'll see a message asking you to switch to a desktop.

What is the inactive stamp image for?

When a customer hasn't yet earned a stamp, the card shows an "inactive" stamp at that position. By uploading the transparent inactive stamp, those positions become invisible — so your reward roadmap background shows through instead of grey placeholder circles.

How do customers know what each reward is?

The card front shows "Available rewards: 1" but doesn't display the actual reward name. To tell customers what each reward is, use clear labels in your background design (e.g., "GIFT", "FREE", "20% OFF") and list each reward in your card's Terms of Use in the Information tab.

Can I customise each milestone differently?

Yes. After setting your default milestone design, scroll down to the Per-Milestone Overrides section. Click on any milestone to expand it and change its label text, icon, or fill colour independently. Click Reset to defaults to undo changes on any individual milestone.

Can I upload my own background image?

Yes. In the Background section under Customize Design, click Upload image to use your own background. The stamp circles and milestones will be drawn on top of your uploaded image.

What shapes are available for milestone stamps?

Three shapes: circle (standard round, default), badge (scalloped/wavy edge like an award seal), and square (rounded square). All three support icons, text, and custom colours.

The text in my milestones is too small or too large

Adjust the Font Size slider in the Milestone Design section (8px to 28px). Text also scales automatically based on stamp size — cards with more stamps have smaller circles, so text adapts accordingly. Keep milestone labels short (1–2 words) for best results.

My background image looks cropped

Background images scale to cover the entire 1125 x 432 canvas while maintaining their aspect ratio. If your image has a different ratio, some edges may be cropped. For best results, use a landscape image with roughly a 2.6:1 width-to-height ratio.

Can I use this for points cards or cashback cards?

No. The Multi-Reward Card Designer is specifically designed for stamp cards with visual stamp positions. Points and cashback cards don't use stamp grids.

I made a mistake — can I undo?

The designer doesn't have an undo button, but you can easily fix any mistake by changing the setting directly — the preview updates instantly. Click a milestone again to remove it, use the colour presets to quickly reset colours, or click Reset to defaults on any per-milestone override. Refresh the page to start completely from scratch.

The preview looks different from my actual card

The background image is just one layer of the final card. On the actual Perkstar card, active stamps (earned) appear on top of the positions you designed, inactive stamps should be transparent so your background shows through, and the card may also show a header, logo, and other elements above the stamp area.

Where can I get help?
