Setting Up a Separate Ceremony and Reception

If the ceremony and reception are happening in different places, there are two ways to organize them in Planpage.

The correct setup depends on whether the ceremony and reception share the same guest list, or whether they need to be managed as separate Events with their own invites and RSVPs.

When to Use a Single Event

If the same guests are invited to both the ceremony and reception, create a single Ceremony & Reception Event. This is the default Event created for every new Wedding project.

This applies even when the ceremony and reception take place at completely different venues.

A single Event can have multiple Venues, so one Venue can be assigned to the ceremony and another to the reception while everything remains connected to the same guest list.

Spaces can also be added within a Venue for specific areas such as a patio, ballroom, or cocktail-hour space.

When to Split Into Two Events

If the ceremony and reception have different guest lists, create a separate Event for each one. Each Event has its own guest list, allowing invitations, RSVPs, meal selections, and guest counts to be managed separately.

This setup is used for situations such as a private ceremony followed by a larger reception, or any wedding where some guests are invited to only one portion of the day.

How to Decide

Same guest list:
Create one Ceremony & Reception Event and add separate Venues as needed.

Different guest lists:
Create separate Ceremony and Reception Events.

A separate location does not require a separate Event. If the ceremony and reception share the same guests, they should remain within a single Event with multiple Venues.
