Why do I not get exactly the same number of visits between Plezi and Google Analytics?

When tracking your site's performance on GA4, you may notice a difference between Plezi and Google Analytics statistics?

The purpose of this article:
In this article, we explain how the Plezi and Google Analytics tools work. We also emphasize the reasons why there may be a difference in figures between these tools.

❶ These are two different tools, with their own functions

Google collects data massively, while our tracking approach is more inbound oriented: we detect the IP addresses of visitors, we load their browsing cookies and we reconcile the data to recognize those that we already know.

The functioning of the tracking rules and the timing of their implementation will therefore never be exactly the same.

❷ In some cases, Plezi does not take account of rebounds

To generate a visit, Plezi retrieves some essential inbound marketing strategy information (IP, cookies, referer). Generally, this data is collected in less than a second.
In some cases (bad connection, inappropriate device, long page to load), it may take a few more seconds to retrieve all the necessary information.

If your visitor leaves the page or returns during this period, the visit will not be identified.

❸The accounting of visits by robots differs

Did you know that more than half of internet tracking is done by robots?
And that a significant portion of these robots belong to Google?
Normally, at first sight, Google is more able to identify them. Be aware, however, that robots (whether they are good or bad) are constantly evolving and that there will never be an exact science for everyone to know about them.

By default, Google does not filter visits from robots. But you can ask for it by checking the box in Administration > View Settings > Robot Filtering (non-retroactive). From this point on, Google will have a pretty full (but never complete) list of bots to filter.

Plezi, he filters the visits of the robots. They are listed and updated regularly by the R&D team. However, this list will never be as comprehensive as the one collected by the Google Authority.

Concrete:

  • If your default settings are in GA and Plezi: expect to see your Google traffic higher than that of Plezi. The difference depends on many parameters. We invite you to filter the dare-dare robots!

  • If the tracking of robots is filtered in Google: it may be that the Plezi traffic is 10 to 15% higher than the Google traffic, whose list of bots to filter is longer.
On the other hand, the delta of hits must be less than 5%.
