PLO Trainer - Quick Start
1. Study Overview Layout - Preflop
When you login to PLO Trainer, you will land in the "Study mode". By default the GGPoker low stakes preflop solution will be loaded (or your last used preflop profile).
The player currently highlighted in green on the poker table is the player for whom the range is being displayed on the right side of the screen.
If you want to switch the action from one player to another, use the Action Bar located above the poker table. For example:
If Early Position is currently highlighted in green and you click Fold,
→ EP will fold
→ Middle Position will then become highlighted in green
→ The range view updates to the new player’s strategy
This makes it easy to move through the preflop sequence and study each position in detail.
2. Switching Between 4-Card and 5-Card PLO
In the top-left corner of the window, you will find a switcher to toggle between:
4-Card PLO Trainer
5-Card PLO Trainer
If you click on 5-Card, the 5-Card PLO Trainer will open in a new window.
3. Select Scenario Menu
Below the PLO switcher is the Select Scenario menu. This section shows the currently loaded preflop profile.
To change profiles:
Click the Select Scenario menu
A list of available profiles appears
Use the filters to efficiently find a preflop profile
Load your profile by making your selecting under "Scenario list"
4. Preflop Categories
Below the poker table, you will find the Preflop Categories section.
Because PLO has an extremely large number of possible starting hand combinations, studying preflop strategy can quickly become overwhelming. These categories are created specifically to help you:
Identify patterns and trends
Understand how different hand classes perform
Learn strategy in a more structured way
Each category is represented as a bar chart showing:
The possible actions for that hand class
Weight of the category (percentage of your total range)
Filter your category in the range view
You can expand each category by clicking the arrow on the left side.
Example:
Unpaired Double-Suited Hands raise 41% of the time from Early Position
This category represents 9.51% of the overall EP range (shown on the right side)
This helps you see not only how hands play, but also how important each category is to your overall range.
5. Range View (Right Side)
The right side of the screen displays your Range View for the player currently highlighted in green. At the top, you can use the filter bar to search for any specific hand.
Example: typing “KK” will display all pocket-king combinations.
The Range View consists of several columns representing:
Hand:
The specific representative combo. Example top right:
AAKK (double-suited, spades + hearts) is shown as an open raise.
Frequency:
How often this exact combo takes that action.
AAKKds open-raises the full pot 100% of the time.
EV (Expected Value):
The EV of taking the listed action.
The EV for open-raising AAKKds is +3.79 bb.
EV Difference:
EV Difference shows you how much better the best action is vs the next best possible action. In this example open raising AAKK$ds is +3.79 bb better than folding.
Weight:
Weight indicates how many combinations of this exact hand appear in your preflop range. Since each suited version of AAKK is unique, the weight here is 1.
6. Suit Simplifications
Preflop ranges in PLO Trainer use suit simplifications. This means:
Only one representative version of each hand is displayed
Different suit variations of a identical hand share the same preflop strategy
Example:
AAKK double-suited spade-spade-heart-heart
AAKK double-suited clubs-clubs-diamond-diamond
These hands play identically preflop, so only one version is shown.
7. Matrix
The Matrix gives you a visual, 13×13 grid representation of your range, similar to the matrix used in No-Limit Hold’em. It’s designed to help you quickly recognize patterns across different hand classes and understand how suits and structure influence your strategy. It's available preflop and on the flop.
To use the Matrix, simply select your two highest cards or the pocket pair (pocket pairs appear on the diagonal).
The top-right side of the diagonal shows good suit variations (suited to the highest card of your hand)
The bottom-left shows bad suit variations (Non suited to the highest card in your hand)
You can apply filters (you find these on the right side of the matrix) such as double-suited or single-suited—to zoom into specific sub-hand classes. Clicking a cell reveals all the side-card combinations and how each version of the hand plays.
The Matrix gives you an efficient, high-level way to explore your range before diving deeper into individual combos. We strongly recommend using the filters on the right side of the matrix to make the most sense of the visual data.
8. Train
To start training in PLO Trainer, simply click the Train button in the top-right corner of the Range View. This immediately launches a training session for the exact node you’re currently studying.
You can train either your entire range or a filtered range.
Once training begins, you’ll be dealt immediately hands from the selected range. Use the action buttons below the poker table to choose your actions and play through the spot.
On the right side of the training window, you’ll find the History Panel, which tracks every hand you’ve played in the current session. It shows:
A list of all trained hands
Whether each decision was correct or incorrect
Key info for every hand, including frequencies and EV
You can click any hand in the list to review it, see the optimal action, and understand how your choice compared in terms of EV. If you click the Study this hand button it will open up a new window in which you can study this hand further in the "study mode".
The info panel on the top right will display information for the full range, category and matrix.
Retry Mistakes
Click on the "End Session" button in the top right when doing a training. Your personal scorecard for the training session will show with the option to retry the mistakes.
9. Preferences & Session Stats
Preferences: Filter hands, add a time bank, or adjust feedback settings.
Session Stats: Tracks hands played, accuracy, total/average EV loss, and overall session performance.
Ending a Session: Click Stop Session (top-right) to view a scorecard summarizing your results.
10. Skills: One-Click Training
Skills are pre-generated training modules in PLO Trainer that allow you to start practicing immediately with just one click—no additional setup required.
You can choose between Cash or MTT, select different stakes, and pick from a variety of preflop scenarios. For example, you can train open raising, playing against a single raiser in position or play random preflop hands from all positions.
Skills are especially useful for anyone looking to quickly jump into training, get familiar with the interface, and start building pattern recognition and decision-making PLO.
Note: You can find Skills if you select the "Train" module in the top menu.
11. Load a Flop
To open a postflop scenario in the PLO Trainer:
Go to Study View.
Click Select Scenario in the top-left corner.
In the pop-up window, switch the street from Preflop to Postflop.
Use the filters to find the spot you want to study. For example:
6-Max → 1 vs 1 (two players go to the flop from a 6-max table)
100bb → Single Raised Pot → BTN vs BB
Select your scenario in the list at the bottom. A new window will appear with all available flops.
Use the filters on the left or scroll the list to find your preferred flop texture.
Click the flop to load it. The PLO Trainer will automatically open the spot in Study View and highlight the first player to act in green.
Use the action bar above the table to move the action from one player to the other.
12. Load a Turn and River
To move from the flop to the turn in the PLO Trainer:
In Study View, use the action bar above the table and choose an action that leads to the turn.
A pop-up window will appear with all available turn cards.
Select any highlighted turn to load it instantly.
From the turn, you can repeat the same process to open a river card.
Tip: Make sure the flop you selected includes turn and river solutions. In the Select Flop window, these flops are marked with a question mark icon—this indicates that turn and river data is available.
13. Equity Graph
The Equity Graph in the PLO Trainer shows how much equity each player has on a specific board texture based on the ranges in play. You can view it on the flop, turn, and river. The graph sorts both players’ ranges from strongest to weakest (left to right).
On the left, you’ll see the highest-equity hands.
On the right, the weakest parts of each range.
The distance between the two lines represents the advantage:
A larger gap means the player whose line is higher has a bigger equity advantage across that part of the distribution.
This helps you quickly understand who is ahead and how the ranges interact on any street.
14. Reports
Aggregated Reports in the PLO Trainer give you a visual overview of how a player plays on all available flops in a specific scenario.
All flops are listed below each other, and each one includes a bar chart showing the action frequencies for that flop. This lets you quickly see how strategies change across different textures in a single, unified view.
You can:
Sort by specific actions to see on which boards a player uses that action most often.
Apply texture filters to focus only on certain board types you want to study in more detail.
Aggregated Reports are a powerful way to identify patterns and understand flop strategies at a glance.
