The Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR) is a European regulation that accelerates the rollout of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles and makes its use easier.
AFIR sets binding targets for member states, such as installing charge points every 60 kilometers along the Trans-European Transport Network by 2030, and requires that new public charge points from April 13, 2024, provide price transparency and allow payments without a subscription, for example, via bank cards or QR codes.
Existing charge points have until January 1, 2027, to comply with these requirements. Additionally, charge point operators must make information on location, pricing, and availability freely accessible, ensuring it is publicly available through national access points.
