How is the charging tariff for a (public) charging station determined?

At Pluginvest, we do not charge any additional fee per kWh on top of the electricity costs for a charging session when using our Charge@Public charging card.

However, the owner of the charging point can set an additional charging fee on top of the electricity costs of the charging session, provided they have purchased Pluginvest’s Public Reimbursement Package when acquiring the charging station, for example. The owner or "operator" can determine this additional fee based on their own electricity tariff, the general market prices for public charging, and/or the investment made in the installation of the charging infrastructure. As an owner or operator, you are currently (as of July 2025) still free to set these rates yourself, although it is advisable to keep the rates competitive to ensure your charging infrastructure remains attractive to other EV drivers. Under the AFIR regulation, operators must clearly display their charging rates.

The average market rate for public charging points is €0.50/kWh (including VAT), but this price can vary significantly depending on the type of charging point (AC or DC) and any surcharges applied by different operators.
