Plugzio devices have various modes of operation. These modes are represented by different LED patterns and colors on the device.
On the front of the Plugzio Universal+, you can find the following LEDs:
Bottom LED light (labeled as P): Stands for "Power", and simply indicates that the device is powered on.
Top LED light (labeled as S): Stands for "Status", and indicates what status the device is currently in by different colors and patterns.
Pattern Types
The LED on a Plugzio device will always only show 2 types of patterns:
Blinking - LED turns on and off repeatedly.
Breathing - LED slowly dims/brightens or pulses periodically.
The video below shows you the two different pattern types (Blinking on the left, breathing on the right). Moreover, you can find a summary of this article and the LED colors/patterns in the table below.
Color | Breathing | Blinking |
Green | N/A | Searching for internet. Generally seen on only new installations and unregistered Plugzio devices. Device is on "Always On" mode and can be used for free. |
Red | User cannot activate either due to connection loss or the device being on "Always Off" mode | Device is having an error. |
Cyan | Device is on "Smart Mode" and idle, and can be used by Plugzio users. | N/A |
White | Regardless of internet connection, without needing the Plugzio app to activate, the outlet can be used for free. | N/A |
Rainbow | N/A | Device is in use and electricity is flowing through the device, while the device is on "Smart" mode. |
Purple | N/A | Software or firmware update happening. |
Blinking Patterns
A blinking pattern indicates that the outlet is actively doing something or is in use.
Blinking Green
Blinking green means that the device is searching for or attempting to connect to the internet & Plugzio Cloud. This state is generally seen only on new installations or unregistered Plugzio devices. The purpose of this state is to see if the devices are working or able to connect to the internet/cloud at their installed location. The device can be used free of charge in this mode, as it is not connected to Plugzio Cloud.
Blinking Rainbow
Blinking rainbow means that the device is in use and that electricity is flowing through the device. This is seen whenever a device is being used in its "Always On" mode or has been authenticated by a Plugzio user in its "Smart" mode.
Blinking Purple
Blinking purple indicates that a firmware or software update is happening on the device. During this process, the Plugzio device will automatically download and install new updates.
During this process, we encourage users and managers not to use the device and to wait for the device to finish the update. The device will not be responsive as the device is busy processing the update and will automatically reboot when it is done.
Blinking Red
Blinking red means that there is an error on the device. If blinking red is observed, try rebooting the device by pressing the square reset button above the LED light or by cutting power to the device for 10 seconds. The reset button is recessed to prevent accidental actuation so it may be necessary to use a pen or a key to press it. The LED will go off while the reset button is depressed.
If the error still persists after a reboot and the device is blinking red, please contact Plugzio support at help@plugzio.com or at +1 833 Plugzio (758 4946).
Breathing Patterns
A breathing pattern indicates that the device is in a steady state and idle.
Breathing Cyan
Breathing cyan means that the device is idle and can be used by Plugzio users.
This indicates that the device has been configured to "Smart" mode, and the device will only breathe cyan when it is connected to the internet/cloud as connection is required for users to start a session.
Breathing White
Breathing white means that regardless of internet connection and without the need to activate the device from the Plugzio app, the outlet can be used for free, and the device is set to the "Always On" mode. Power is available upon plugging in, and users do not have to pay in order to charge.
Breathing Red
Breathing red means that the device is idle but cannot be used by Plugzio users.
If the device has been set to "Always Off' mode, the device will always breath red as the device can never be used by users in this state.
If the device has been set to "Smart" mode, the device will breathe red when the device does not have or is searching for internet/cloud connection. This is because the device cannot be used by users without being connected to the cloud/internet.
Scenario Examples
Below are the LED colors and patterns for some common scenarios.
Booting Up A New Device
When booting up a brand-new device, the device is in a special "default" mode. The default mode, functionality wise, is equivalent to the "Always On" mode - causing the device's relay to always turn on so you can just plug in.
The LED state in this default mode will allow you to see the connection status of the device:
The LED will start blinking green as it is searching for internet/cloud connection
Once connection is obtained, the LED will start breathing cyan/light blue
Note: For WiFi devices, you will have to configure the device with your WiFi credentials for it to connect.
The video below shows the scenario when a new device is turned on.
Booting Up A Device In Smart Mode
When turning on a device in "Smart" mode, the device will immediately breathe red as the device is searching for internet/cloud connection. During this state, the device cannot be used by users as the connection to the internet/cloud is required.
Once connection has been established, the device will breathe cyan. This indicated that the device is ready to be used by users.
Receiving A Firmware Update
When a device is receiving a firmware or software update, the device will automatically start breathing purple for a short period of time. During this state, the device will not be responsive to any manager or user commands. We strongly suggest not interrupting this process (do not reboot the device or cut power).
Once this process is complete, the device will automatically reboot. After a reboot, watch the LED as it will eventually change to a breathing pattern. Once a breathing pattern is seen, the device can now be used as per normal operation.
Starting & Stopping A Session In Smart Mode
Make sure the device is configured in "Smart" mode and its LED state is breathing cyan. This indicates that the device is idle and ready to be used by a user.
When a session is activated and a load is plugged in, the device's LED will start blinking orange showing that it has received a "Start Session" command from the user. The device will then turn on its relay, and the LED will start blinking rainbow. Indicating that the session has started, and the device is actively monitoring power consumption and sending information to the cloud.
When the user is done with the session, the user will either unplug or terminate the session through the app. The device's LED will then blink orange, indicating that it is sending information to the cloud and terminating the session. Once this is done, the device's LED will then go back to breathing cyan, indicating that the device is idle and ready to be used by the next user.
Troubleshooting and Customer Support
The device's LED should always be on and showing one of the above patterns. If no light is seen on the LED, make sure to check that the device is powered on.
If the device's LED is a solid color, please try rebooting the device by pressing the reset button or by directly cutting power to the device.
