1.0 Prerequisites

  1. Location and Equipment Specification: The location for installation and the specific type and quantity of Plugzio units are already predetermined.

  2. Network Analysis: The analysis of network and connectivity for the Plugzio units has been finalized.

  3. Documentation Distribution: Plugzio shall supply the installer/electrician with the necessary installation manuals prior to the installation.

  4. Wi-Fi Credentials: If the devices utilize the client's existing Wi-Fi network, the Wi-Fi credentials of this network are known to the Plugzio Support Team.

  5. Schedule Coordination: The post-installation schedule has been communicated to the Plugzio Support Team at least 24 hours in advance of the installation. This can be scheduled at Plugzio Installation Session Booking

2.0 Plugzio Support

The Plugzio support team should be on standby during the installation process.

After the devices have been installed and a support meeting has been arranged, you can reach the support team at The Plugzio customer care team contact information

3.0 Installation Deliverables

Successful completion of the installation requires the following criteria to be met:

  1. Information Provision: The Installer/Electrician shall provide details for each unit installed in accordance with Appendix A.

  2. Power Activation: Each unit must be powered on. This is indicated by the device’s LED if the device is receiving power.

  3. Plugzio Wi-Fi Installation & Checks: This is only applicable if Wi-Fi infrastructure is provided by Plugzio. Wi-Fi connectivity must be checked and verified. See Section 4.0 for the extender location guide & post-connectivity checks.

  4. Post Installation Check: Verify that the unit is operational and has established an online connection. This must be completed for an installation to be considered completed and successful. The Plugzio Support Team will assist in confirming if the units come online as per the “Schedule Coordination” in Section 1.0.

    • See Appendix B & C for additional troubleshooting information.

4.0 Plugzio Wi-Fi Extender Guide

4.1 Wi-Fi Extender Location Guide

Note: This section helps determine the installation location of Wi-Fi extenders. Cellular modems can also act as extenders as they are also able to broadcast a Wi-Fi network.

  • Pick out all the locations where Plugzio devices (Wi-Fi model) will be installed.

  • Each extender/modem can support up to 8 Plugzio devices.

  • Extenders must be placed within 50ft/15m line-of-sight between all relevant Plugzio devices.

  • Extender should be placed in the most central location relative to any Plugzio devices that fall within the 50/15m radius

  • If it is not within line-of-sight or within 50ft/15m you will need to do a connectivity check post-installation. Additional Wi-Fi extenders may have to be installed depending on the post-installation connectivity check.

4.2 Post Installation - Check the Wi-Fi network at the extender/modem location

Note: This is applicable for both the Wi-Fi extender and the cellular modem (as it is able to broadcast a Wi-Fi network)

  1. Power on the modem or Wi-Fi extender you are testing

  2. Place Test Equipment (TE) directly beside the extender/modem under test, and scan for Wi-Fi signal strength

    • If using an Android phone:

      • Install the “WiFi Analyzer” application: WiFi Analyzer (or equivalent app)

      • Open the WiFi Analyzer app and observe the scanning results.

      • If using an iPhone:

        • Currently, there is no solution for iPhones.

  3. You should be able to see a network with SSID "Plugzio-XXXX". This is the Wi-Fi network that is being broadcasted by the modem/extender.

  4. Ensure that the signal strength is excellent at this location, if not make sure the extender/modem is assembled properly (i.e. check to ensure antennas are correctly installed).

4.2.1 Wi-Fi signal strength guide

Signal Condition

Signal Strength (dbm)

Excellent

Greater than -50

Good

-50 to -60

Average

-60 to -65

Poor

-65 to -70

Unreliable

Less than -70

4.3 Post Installation - Check the Wi-Fi network at the Plugzio device location

Note: This is applicable to Plugzio devices that will be using Wi-Fi for internet connectivity.

  1. Place your Test Equipment (TE) directly beside the Plugzio device you are testing.

    • If the Plugzio device is mounted on a wall, place the TE on the wall

  2. Check the Signal strength of the "Plugzio-XXXX" network for the device, using the methods outlined in section 4.2

  3. Repeat for all Plugzio devices

    • If the signal strength is good or excellent, this is sufficient for the device to operate reliably.

    • If the signal strength is average or below for any of the devices:

      • Additional extenders will have to be installed, OR

      • The device will have to be relocated

Appendix B - Plugzio Cando Cellular antenna check

In the event, the Plugzio Cando device does not connect to the cellular network. Please check the internal cellular antenna.

  1. The front panel of the device can be removed by un-doing the 6 screws at the back of the device.

  2. The front panel has cables connected to it so be careful when opening up the front cover.

    • There are 2 white ribbon cables and 1 thin grey cable

  3. The antenna connection is a thin grey cable. There are three slots where the antenna can be connected to. Please make sure the antenna is connected to the top slot on the green board. See the images below for reference.

    • If the antenna is disconnected it can be reconnected back by aligning the connectors and pushing down. You should feel a click.

    • The antenna should be connected to the slot on the top.

Appendix C - Plugzio Cando SIM card check

  • Once the front panel is opened, the SIM card can be found on the top right of the device. See the image below for reference.

  • Please make sure the SIM card is installed correctly

    • The chip should be facing down & the notched corner should be on the top left when inserted.

  • Inserting the SIM card and pushing should lock the SIM in place.

  • Pushing again should release the SIM card.

  • For reference, please take a picture of the number on the SIM card for the support team.
