You can now use Polar Analytics to track your Shopify Sessions by Product data on Polar Analytics. You can use this data to quickly identify your site metrics (such as Cart Sessions, Purchase Sessions, Quantity Added to Cart, and more). This data is released weekly on Mondays by Shopify's API to Polar Analytics.

There are two important notes to keep in mind when using these metrics on Polar:

  1. This data is released by product - and it does not represent overall view sessions. If you're comparing the data between Shopify and Polar, you'll need to compare to the Shopify Product Insights page. You can access the Shopify Product Insights page under "Insights" within Shopify Analytics if you'd like to compare the product sessions data to Polar.

  2. This data is only released once every 7 days on Mondays by Shopify's API. For that reason, you may not see data for these metrics if you're looking at this week's date range.

Within Polar, you can use either your Key Indicators or a Custom Report to track your Shopify sessions & add to cart metrics, and to add breakdowns for further insights - see below for complete lists of all metrics & breakdowns currently available. This data is released weekly by Shopify, similarly to what is shown in the product insights report.

You can access the Shopify Product Insights page under "Insights" within Shopify Analytics if you'd like to compare the product sessions data to Polar. Keep in mind this is released weekly.

What Shopify site metrics are available in Polar?

By typing "Sessions" in your metrics search bar in a Custom Report, you can see the following metrics currently offered and how they're defined by Shopify:

  • View Sessions - The sessions where a product was viewed.

  • Cart Sessions - The sessions where a product was added to the cart.

  • Checkout Sessions - The sessions where a product reached checkout.

  • Purchase Sessions - The sessions where a product was purchased.

  • Quantity Added to Cart - The total quantity added to Shopify carts.

We do not yet have Visits data from Shopify as it's not yet exposed in the Shopify API - as soon as it's available (likely in 2024), the Polar Team will work to surface that data within the app.

What breakdowns are available with Shopify site metrics?

Once you've pulled any of the above metrics into a Polar report, you can then choose to break down your data by:

  • Processed Date

  • Product ID

  • Product Title

  • Product Type

  • Store

  • Timezone

Available breakdowns depend on what Shopify exposes in its API - we hope to add more breakdowns soon, as Shopify expands its API coverage!

The image below demonstrates how you can access breakdowns within a Custom Report.

Why don't I see data for the Shopify site metrics?

Due to Shopify's policy, the Session metrics (Cart Sessions, Checkout Sessions, Purchase Sessions, View Sessions, and Quantity Added To Cart) are only refreshed once a week, on Monday. This is why you will not see data populate if you are look at this week's date range.

Additionally, the sessions data might not be available to you in the Shopify app if you are not on the Shopify Plus plan. We would like to remind you, that as with all the metrics available in Polar, the sessions metrics from Shopify are limited to what is available in the API of the source platform.
