How Poppy's Memory Actually Works

When you're chatting with Poppy and wondering why it sometimes "forgets" things or gives you weird responses, here's what's actually happening under the hood.

What Poppy sends on every message

When you send a message, Poppy sends the AI two things:

  1. Everything connected to the chat (files, videos, links, text boxes)

  2. The whole conversation so far in this chat

Nothing is left out, but the AI pays most attention to the latest part of a long conversation.

Why long chats get worse

In a very long chat, something you said 50 messages ago can get less attention than your recent messages. Long chats also cost more credits and can hit the model's limit.

The Real Solution: Train Your Board, Not Just One Chat

Stop getting stuck in single chats. Here's what actually works:

When Something Great Happens:

  1. Copy that perfect script, SOP, or guideline

  2. Put it in a text box (press "T")

  3. Now it's available to ANY chat on your board

Why This Changes Everything:

  • New chats can instantly access your best work

  • You're never trapped in one conversation

  • Information stays accessible instead of getting buried

Smart Chat Management

Do This:

  • Create focused chats for specific topics

  • Move valuable outputs to text boxes immediately

  • Start fresh chats when conversations get unwieldy

Don't Do This:

  • Try to cram everything into one mega-chat

  • Let important information get lost in long histories

  • Assume the AI remembers everything from the beginning

What Poppy actually "knows"

Poppy only knows:

- What you've connected to the chat

- The conversation history in that specific chat

- The brand voice you selected, if any

- The web, only when you turn on Deep Research in the Tools menu (see Perplexity in Poppy)

You control the sources, but you need to bring the information you want it to use.

Quick Fixes for Common Issues

Getting irrelevant responses?

  • Check what's connected to your chat

  • Remove attachments that aren't relevant to your current question

AI seems to "forget" earlier instructions?

  • Move important guidelines to text boxes

  • Start a new chat and connect the relevant text boxes

Responses getting worse over time?

  • Your chat history is probably too long

  • Extract the good stuff and start fresh
