How It Works
Turn Web Search On:
Click the Tools button under the text box
Click Deep Research (the first option)
Your chat now pulls from both your knowledge base AND the internet.
The web search is done by Perplexity (Sonar Pro). The answer is written by the AI model you selected for the chat.
Turn Web Search Off:
Click Deep Research again in the Tools menu
Your chat returns to using only your connected knowledge base
When to Use It
Use web search when you need to research:
Current trends and recent data
Information not in your uploaded files
Real-time statistics and facts - be sure to specify the year. For example "What are recent fitness trends in 2026"
Competitor analysis
Turn it off when you're working solely with your existing knowledge base.
Credit Usage
Web search uses credits on top of the normal reply: each search is charged at Perplexity's rate plus a small fee per search. Turn it off when you don't need it.
