Enable PortalSphere on a non-live copy of your store

Learn how to clone your Shopify theme and turn on PortalSphere so you can configure and customize wholesale features without affecting your live storefront until you're ready.

Updated yesterday

1) Duplicate your theme and select "customize"

  1. From the Shopify admin, go to the left-hand menu and click Store → Themes

  2. Find your live theme, go to the three-dot menu and select "Duplicate"

  3. Click "Customize" next to the copied theme

2) Enable PortalSphere & disable other wholesale apps

  1. In the theme editor sidebar, click App embeds.

  2. Enable PortalSphere

  3. If applicable, disable all other wholesale apps

  4. Save changes (top-right)

3) Go to the Product Page template

  1. In the top menu of the theme editor, navigate to Products → Default product (or whichever product page template your store uses).

4) Add the app block “Product Pricing Table”

  1. In the left-hand menu, look under Template → Product information.

  2. Scroll to just below the Price block.

  3. Click the blue “Add block” (+) button.

  4. In the window that appears, select the Apps tab at the top.

  5. Choose PortalSphere's Product Pricing Table app block.

  6. The app block is now properly set up even though it likely won’t appear while in the theme editor.

  7. Click Save in the top-right corner.

5) Add the app block “Complementary Product”

  1. In the same Product information area on the left, scroll down to the Buy buttons block.

  2. Click the blue “Add block” (+) button directly below Buy buttons.

  3. Choose the Apps tab again.

  4. Select PortalSphere's Complementary Product app block.

  5. The app block is now properly set up even though it likely won’t appear while in the theme editor.

6) If applicable, add our app blocks to all other product page templates

If your store uses more than one product page template (for example, “Default product,” “Product pre-order,” etc.), you must repeat the steps above by adding our two app blocks to each template. Shopify applies blocks per template, so adding the Pricing Table and Complementary Product blocks to one template does not automatically apply them to the others.

7) Ensure cart drawer is enabled

  1. In the theme editor sidebar, go to Theme settings → Cart (or similar).

  2. Set the cart type to Drawer (this ensures PortalSphere’s cart logic and UI overlays work correctly).

  3. Click Save in the top-right corner.
