Students Guide to Power Spelling

Show students how to log in, play games, and take tests within their accounts.

Logging in to Power Spelling

Type in your username and password carefully. Do not add any blank spaces. Then, click the Sign In button.

Make sure you have the correct username and password. You should get these from your teacher or parent.

If you get an invalid login message, double check that you have the correct login information and carefully re-enter your username and password.

💡Tip: Make sure the caps lock button on your key board is turned off.

The Forgot Your Password and Sign Up links are for teachers and parents only. These do not work on student accounts.


Assignments

  1. Click on Assignments from the left menu. You will see all of your active assignments.

  2. To begin a game or assignment, click on the blue Begin Game or Begin Assignment buttons.

  3. You can start a test and finish it later. Click on the Save for Later button to have your work saved and the option to continue later.

  4. If you do not have time to complete a game, close out of the game. You will have the Continue option for unfinished games.


Results

  1. Click on Results from the left menu.

  2. For each assignment, you will have the View Responses and Assignment Summary buttons. You can also see the Result. The Result number shows the percent of words that were spelling correctly.

Note: If the View Responses and Assignment Summary buttons are not there, your teacher has Hidden Student Reports on that assignment.


Results - View Responses

  1. Click the View Responses button. The report will open in the right panel.

  2. This list will show how you answered. Correct answers will have a green check to the right of the word. Incorrect answers will have a red x to the right of the word.


Results - Assignment Summary

  1. Click on the Assignment Summary button. The report will open in the right panel.

  2. The second column will display your responses. Responses are color-coded; green for correct responses and red for incorrect response.

  3. The third column displays the correct response of each word.

  4. One point is earned for each word that is correct.


Word Lists

When clicking on Word Lists, you will have access to all the spelling or vocabulary lists that have been shared with you by your teacher.

Word Lists Allows Students to:

  • View the Word List

  • Print the Word List (using the computer’s browser)

  • Test Themselves

  • Practice

  • Play Games (All games are available)

Play Games allows you to monitor your own spelling or vocabulary skills. You do not get Results for activities completed using Play Games.


Free Play

Free Play allows you to choose your own spelling or vocabulary activities.

When clicking on Free Play, you will have access to all the spelling or vocabulary lists that have been shared with you by your teacher.

In Free Play you have the option to:

  • Test Yourself (Get your overall score at the end of the list)

  • Practice (Words are marked correct or incorrect as you go)

  • Play a Game of Your Choice (All games are available)

Free Play allows you to monitor your own spelling or vocabulary skills. You do not get Results for activities completed in Free Play.


Spelling Bee

The Spelling Bee Game allows you to compete against other students in a Spelling Bee Competition. Spell words correctly to move from the class, school, district, state and national level.

Select your difficulty level: Easy, Medium or Hard
