Updated this week

Dashboard overview

When you open the Prefixbox app, you’ll land on the dashboard — your main hub for managing search setup, modules, usage, and more.

Onboarding guide

At the top of the dashboard, you’ll see a simple onboarding checklist.

The onboarding checklist walks you through key first steps to help you get Prefixbox up and running quickly.

This optional guide helps you complete key setup steps like:

  • Adding contact info

  • Watching the onboarding video

  • Assigning a metafield

  • Creating a custom filter

It’s not required, but it’s a good way to kickstart your setup.

Plan details and quota usage

This card shows your current plan and how much of your included usage is already consumed.

The plan card gives you a quick view of your current plan, search quota, and product catalog usage.

You’ll see:

  • Plan name (e.g. Free, Standard, Advanced)

  • Monthly search quota — the number of searches your plan allows per month

  • Product catalog size — how many items in your store are synced to Prefixbox

Use the View details button to open the full Account details page, where you’ll find a breakdown of your usage

Core embed and module cards

Below the onboarding checklist, you’ll find the Core embed and search module cards.

See which modules are active and customize them per theme from the dashboard cards.

These show which features are active and which theme they’re connected to.

Each card lets you:

  • Enable or disable a module

  • Choose which theme it’s active on

  • Access customization settings once activated

For detailed steps, see the Install the app & activate modules guide.

Search tools

This section gives you a quick snapshot of how many search-related tools you’ve used — based on what’s included in your current plan.

See how many search tools you’ve used and jump straight into managing them from here.

You’ll see counters and shortcuts for:

  • Product promotions – highlight specific items in search results

  • Page redirects – send search terms to custom URLs or pages

  • Synonyms – connect related terms to improve search coverage

Each tool is tied to a quota, which depends on your plan. Once you hit your limit, you’ll need to upgrade or delete older rules to free up space.

Menu overview

The Prefixbox app is organized into these main sections. Each one focuses on a different part of your store’s search setup:

Configuration

The Configuration menu is your main workspace for setting up how search works and looks in your store.

It’s split into three tabs — General, Search & collection pages, and Autocomplete — based on which part of the store they affect.

The “Configuration” menu is where you control all core search and layout settings

General settings

Handle everything from catalog syncing to how Prefixbox interprets your product data.

  • Synonyms – Link similar words to improve search coverage.

  • Field management – Pick which Shopify fields (e.g. tags, product types) are used in search and filters.

  • Catalog sync – View product catalog sync status and history, or force a manual sync.

  • Catalog settings – Control how out-of-stock products are handled.

  • Search relevance – Fine-tune results with field weighting and spell correction.

  • Language – Add and manage translations.

  • Theme overview – Check if Prefixbox is active on your themes.

Search & collection pages

Customize what shoppers see when they land on result or collection pages.

  • Filters – Choose which filters appear, their order, and their behavior.

  • Sorting – Set up default sort orders and add custom ones.

  • Pagination – Decide how many products load and how they load (e.g. infinite scroll).

  • Product cards – Pick what info appears on each product tile (price, image, CTA).

  • Result page texts – Update the messages shown on empty or filtered search results.

Autocomplete

Tailor the quick-suggestion dropdown (aka Instant Search or Predictive Search) for mobile and desktop separately.

  • Mobile/Desktop configuration – Control which suggestion types show up (e.g. products, collections), their order, and section labels.

  • Mobile/Desktop product cards – Choose what details are shown on product cards (e.g. price, title, badges, buttons). Configure these separately for mobile and desktop views.

Merchandising

Use Merchandising to control what products shoppers see first for specific search terms.

The “Merchandising” menu is where you create and manage both product promotions and search redirects.

This is where you can:

  • Create product promotions — set rules to pin selected products to the top of search results when a shopper searches for specific keywords (e.g. promoting iPhones for “smartphone” or “Apple”)

  • Set up redirects — guide users to a specific page or URL when they search for certain keywords (e.g. redirecting “returns” to your Return Policy page)

Analytics

Access your search performance dashboard from the navigation or the View analytics button on the homepage.

You’ll start with a usage summary, and from there you can dig deeper into how shoppers interact with search across your store.

The “Analytics” section helps you understand user behavior and search performance at a glance.

Track key insights like:

  • Click-to-cart rates

  • No result queries

  • Filter usage

  • Most searched and most clicked items

Account details

The Account details page shows exactly how much of your plan you’ve used — including any limits you’re close to hitting.

The “Account details” page is where you can review plan usage and manage your contact info.

Plan and usage

See your current plan (e.g. Free, Standard, Advanced) along with all usage quotas:

  • Monthly search quota – how many searches you’ve used this month

  • Product catalog size – how many products you’ve synced to Prefixbox

  • Search tool usage – how many promotions, redirects, and synonyms you’ve added

  • If you’re over any limits, you’ll see a yellow warning and a quick link to upgrade

Contact details

Add an extra contact — like your main merchandiser or support lead — so our team can reach out when needed.

This helps avoid missed messages, especially if you don’t monitor the Shopify admin email regularly.

💡Hint: Use this to add a Gmail, Hotmail. etc or direct work email for better communication with our support team.

Integrations

Connect with external Shopify apps (e.g. review or wishlist tools) to enrich your Prefixbox-powered search with additional filters or content.

Enable integrations for added functionality like customer reviews and wishlist-based filters.
