What is the $20 USD Payroll Add-On?
The Payroll Tax Service (usually shortened to just Payroll) is a module that you must be actively enrolled in, in order to access its features. This add-on allows you to load tax tables and print paychecks in AccountEdge. Tax tables are regularly updated and should be accurate for your state or province, as well as at the federal level. The payroll module does not include direct deposit; this is a different add-on. It does not include the ability to prepare quarterly reports, such as the 940/941, or e-filing (US-only).
AccountEdge supports the ability for employees to be in different states and addresses, and different tax codes for Payroll. For example, a business can easily run payroll even if one employee is in Texas, and another is in California.
If you choose to remove the Payroll Tax Service add-on from your monthly subscription, you will not be able to manually edit the tax tables. Enrolling in the service is required in order to use the module.
What is the Payroll Forms Service? (US-Only)
For US-based customers, some businesses will need to file state and federal quarterly reports, which are not included in the base Payroll module for AccountEdge. The quickest way to identify if you need Payroll Forms is if you need to prepare 940/941 documents.
If you need to print or e-file quarterly reports, then you will need to purchase a Payroll Forms package post-enrollment through the My Account page on the AccountEdge main website. Payroll Forms is provided through our partner, Aatrix, and is an annual service that must be manually renewed each year.
Payroll Forms is an OS-exclusive service, meaning that it has Windows and Mac variations, and you must purchase the version that corresponds to your software (AccountEdge Hosted requires a Windows version of Payroll Forms). It also comes in a single or multi-EIN option.
If you have multiple companies that you need to prepare forms for, then you will need to enroll in the multi-EIN Payroll Forms service for $149 USD a year. Note that we do not increase the charge based on the number of companies beyond requiring the multi-EIN option. You can have any number of companies, and you will only have to pay the one fee.
If you have only one company that you need to prepare forms for, then you will need to enroll in a single-EIN Payroll Forms service for $99 USD per year.
