First Steps After Your Import

Written by Lisa Potter

Nice work getting your QuickBooks data into AccountEdge! Let’s walk through a few simple steps to confirm it all transferred correctly and set you up for what’s next.

Whether you used the DIY method or opted for our paid conversion service, the first day post-import is a great time to double-check that everything landed where it should. Here’s a quick guide to help you feel confident in your setup.

✅ 1. Review Key Records

Start with a spot check of your most important data:

  • Accounts: Do your account balances look right?

  • Customers & Vendors: Are they listed correctly, without duplicates?

  • Items: Do you see all your products and services?

  • Transactions: Are your invoices, bills, and payments showing up properly?

Tip: Use AccountEdge's built-in reports to compare values against QuickBooks exports if you kept a copy.

🔎 2. Search for Red Flags

Check for:

  • Strange characters (often from formatting differences)

  • Missing info (like invoice numbers, account links, tax codes, or other pieces of information)

  • Duplicates, especially if you tried multiple imports

📂 3. Organize and Tag

Now's a great time to:

  • Set up departments, categories, or jobs

  • Review tax codes and rates to ensure compliance

  • Setup user IDs or permissions if others are accessing the data

🔧 4. Make Minor Adjustments

If you spot small issues (like a customer's name missing a letter), go ahead and make corrections. For larger issues — like a whole section of transactions not importing — check your original file and review the import log.

🧰 5. Back It Up Again

Once you're happy with the results, make a clean backup. This will be your new starting point going forward.
