Network Edition vs Connect: Choosing Your Multi-User Setup

Written by Lisa Potter

After migrating from QuickBooks, you need to decide how multiple users will access AccountEdge. You have two options: Network Edition or AccountEdge Connect.

Quick Decision Guide

Choose Network Edition if:

  • All users work in the same office

  • Users need full accounting features (reports, payroll, etc.)

  • You want the fastest performance

Choose Connect if:

  • Users work remotely or from different locations

  • Users only need basic transaction entry (sales, purchases, timesheets, activity slips)

  • You want web-based access from any device

Network Edition: Full Desktop Access for On-Prem Teams

Network Edition gives multiple users simultaneous access to the complete AccountEdge desktop application on your local network.

What you get:

  • Full AccountEdge functionality for all users

  • Real-time data sharing

  • All accounting, payroll, and reporting features

  • User permission controls

Requirements:

  • All computers in same office on local network

  • One computer acts as host for your data file

  • Wired network connection recommended

Cost:

  • First license: $20/month

  • Additional users: $10/month each

AccountEdge Connect: Web-Based Access for Remote Users

Connect is a web companion that syncs with AccountEdge Pro on your desktop. It provides limited accounting functions through any web browser.

What you get:

  • Create sales and purchase transactions

  • Enter timesheets and track time

  • Manage customer contacts

  • Allow customers to pay invoices online

What you can't do:

  • Run reports or process payroll

  • Advanced accounting functions

  • Work without internet connection

Requirements:

  • AccountEdge Pro installed on at least one computer

  • Internet access for all Connect users

  • Regular syncing between web and desktop

Cost:

  • 1 user: $15/month

  • Up to 5 users: $25/month

  • Up to 10 users: $35/month

Can't Decide?

For small offices (2-4 people): Network Edition usually works best and costs less.

For mixed office/remote teams: Connect + one desktop license gives you the most flexibility.

For front counter + back office: Either option works - Network Edition with user restrictions, or Connect for counter staff with desktop for accounting.
