🧠 What Is File Corruption?
File corruption happens when the data inside your company file becomes damaged. This can result from:
Power outages during save operations
Network interruptions
Hardware issues
Software crashes
Corruption can lead to loss of data, system errors, or files that won’t open properly.
🛠️ Self-Service Options to Fix File Corruption
If you’d like to try resolving the issue yourself, we recommend starting with these two options:
🔧 Option 1: Use the Optimization Assistant
The Optimization Assistant is built into AccountEdge and can help repair minor data issues.
To use it:
Open the company file on the same machine where it’s saved. (Do not run this tool over a network.)
Follow the on-screen prompts to optimize the file.
After optimizing, go to File > Verify Company File to ensure the file is stable.
🔁 Option 2: Restore a Backup File
If optimizing doesn’t resolve the issue, or if you have regular backups, restoring a previous version of your file may be the fastest solution.
Identify when the corruption may have started.
Restore a backup file from before that date.
After restoring, go to File > Verify Company File.
If it passes, you’re good to go.
If it fails, return to Option 1 or submit a case.
⚠️ Reminder: Any data entered since the backup was created will be lost and will need to be re-entered.
