An overview of terms used in Analytics

Below is a glossary of terms you may come across in using Analytics.

Number

Field Name

Description

ProdPro ID

Unique production identifier in the ProdPro database.

Record ID

Secondary unique production identifier in the ProdPro database.

Principal Photography Start

The date on which principal photography began. All reports and visualizations on the Dashboard are based on principal photography start date.

Project Title

The name of the production. Code names are tracked separately in ProdPro Pipeline in the AKA field.

Genre

The genre of the production. Includes Action, Comedy, Comedy Drama, Daytime Soap, Drama, Horror, Sci-Fi / Fantasy, and Thriller.

Budget Amount

Total actual or estimated production budget.

Pre-Production Date

The estimated date on which pre-production began.

Production Status

The current status of the production. For more information on how we define Production Status, see our documentation here.

Primary Production Company

The production company most heavily involved in direct management of production, and often the company who is principally financing the production. Note that Production Services companies (as often used by Amazon Studios) are generally not listed as the Primary Production Company, but will be included as an additional Production Company where associated.

Season Number

For episodic productions, the season of the series. Pilots have a null value.

Production Companies

The production companies involved in the production or financing of the project. This includes the Primary Production Company.

Wrap Date

The date on which principal photography completed.

Episode Count

For episodic productions, the number of episodes. Pilots have one episode.

Parent Studio

The parent company (if any) of the Primary Production Company. For the major and mini-major studios, we use a two-tiered hierarchy to contain studio divisions within their parent company.

Studio Lot

The studio lot/stage facility at which the production filmed.

Episodic/Feature

Episodics include broadcast and streaming series and pilots. Features include feature-length films and TV movies.

Publish Date

The date on which the production was published to ProdPro.

Distributor

For episodics and TV movies, the network or streamer on which the production originally aired. For features, the distribution company.

Show Type

Episodic productions are classified as Series, Limited Series, Mini-Series, or Pilots. Feature productions are classified as Features or TV Movies.

Release Date

The date on which the production first aired (episodics) or was widely released (features).

Budget Tier

Each production is assigned a budget tier. See below for more details on budget tiers and corresponding budget ratings.

# of Filming Weeks

The number of weeks of the principal photography period.

Weekly Production Spend

The amount of estimated production spend on a weekly basis, spread evenly across the principal photography period.

City

The city in which the production was filmed. A single production can have multiple filming locations. Estimated production budgets are attributed to each filming location.

State/Province

The state or province in which the production was filmed. A single production can have multiple filming locations. Estimated production budgets are attributed to each filming location.

Country

The country in which the production was filmed. A single production can have multiple filming locations. Estimated production budgets are attributed to each filming location.

Region

The region in which the production was filmed.

Location Budget

The amount of the estimated production budget attributed to the location.

Location Weekly Spend

The amount of estimated production spend attributed to the location on a weekly basis, spread evenly across the principal photography period.

Filming Weeks (In Production)

The week of the year during which principal photography took place.

Estimated Budgets

Aggregate of estimated production budgets. Each production is provided an estimated budget amount, which is then categorized into a budget rating and tier.

Additionally, we estimate budget spend per location. For productions filming in multiple locations, we estimate the portion of spend in each location.

Aggregations

Count of Unique Productions

The unique count of productions. A single season of an episodic project is defined as one production. Pilots are considered separate productions.

Sum of Total Production Budget

The sum of total production budgets.

Sum of Location Budgets

The sum of total production budgets attributed to the locations.

Sum of Weekly Production Spend

The sum of weekly production budgets.

Sum of Weekly Location Spend

The sum of weekly production budgets attributed to the locations.
