Issue
Merchants may encounter various situations related to Adyen terminal software updates, including:
The terminal requests a code to install an update.
Upgrade notifications appear during business hours.
Updates seem to install at inconvenient times.
Users want to schedule updates outside of business hours.
Cause
Adyen terminals regularly receive firmware and security updates to maintain performance, security, and compliance.
Depending on the terminal configuration:
An update may require the Administrator Code.
Notifications may be displayed on the terminal screen.
Installation may occur during the terminal's scheduled restart time.
Resolution
Terminal Requests a Code During a Software Update
When a terminal requests a code to install a software upgrade, it is asking for the Administrator Code.
The Administrator Code can be accessed through the Adyen Customer Area, provided the user has the appropriate permissions.
To locate the Administrator Code:
Sign in to the Adyen Customer Area.
Ensure you have the required terminal management roles and permissions.
Review the security settings or Adyen documentation to locate the Administrator Code.
Important: Only users with the appropriate permissions can view or modify terminal administrative settings.

Schedule Updates Outside Business Hours
Terminals generally download software updates automatically in the background as they become available.
However, the update is fully installed only at the configured restart time, unless it is installed manually beforehand.
To review or change the restart time:
Sign in to the Adyen Customer Area.
Navigate to In-Person Payments.
Select Terminal Settings.
Review or modify the scheduled restart time.
By default, terminals use a restart time of 6:00 AM (local time) when no custom schedule has been configured.
Recommended Configuration
To minimize the operational impact of software updates:
✅ Disable software upgrade notifications.
✅ Configure a restart time outside business hours.
With this configuration:
Updates are downloaded automatically in the background.
Installations occur during the scheduled restart window.
Manual intervention is typically not required.
Expected Result
After applying the recommended settings:
Software updates are downloaded automatically.
Notifications no longer disrupt merchant operations.
Updates are installed outside business hours.
The terminal remains up to date with the latest available software versions.
