So your release is out on Spotify & Apple Music, but a remix on the release is not appearing on the remixers own artist profile. This article will explain why that may be happening, and give you 2 options to potentially resolve the issue.
Spotify & Apple Music don't treat remixers equally as original artists, unfortunately. When you have a release that features multiple tracks, and one of the tracks is a remix, then the release will not be treated as a normal release by that remixer.
Apple Music/iTunes: The release the remix appears on will not even appear on the remixer's page, unfortunately! See below for 2 ways to fix it.
Spotify: The release may not look like it appears on their page, but you can actually find it all the way on the bottom of the "Appears On" section of the remixer's page. It appears at the bottom of that section, because that section is sorted by popularity, not by release date. See below for 2 ways to fix this!
So, that's pretty bad for remixers, right? Luckily, Proton has 2 ways you can fix this problem on your release...
Before we begin, you must first understand the concept of Headline Artists...
Headline Artists are the artists attached to an entire release, not individual tracks. Traditionally, a headline artist is an artist that is attached to every song on the release or a DJ who put together the release. So when a remixer is not a headline artist on your release, then Spotify & Apple Music won't place it prominently or correctly on the remixer's artist profile.
Solution A: Add the Remixer as a Headline Artist
If your release has 3 or less artists involved, then this is the solution for you! You can edit your existing release and add the remixer as a Headline Artist by following the below instructions.
Step 1 - Click "Edit/Fix" on your release in SoundSystem
Step 2 - Scroll down to the "Details & Settings" of your release and look for the "Headline Artists" section.
Step 3 - Click on the Headline Artists to enable edit mode.
Step 4 - Update the Headline Artists to include the remixer(s), then click save.
Step 5 - Click "Submit Corrections" on your release to send the fix to all platforms, including Spotify & Apple Music.
After clicking "Submit Corrections" you should see the release appearing correctly on the remixer's profile on Spotify & Apple Music after 3-5 business days.
Solution B: Release the Remix(es) Separately
If your release has more than 3 artists involved, then the best way to solve this problem is to re-release each remix individually (as a 1 track release). Proton luckily makes this very easy to do! And you can configure the re-release to NOT get re-released on the DJ shops like Beatport, too. Plus, on Spotify, the stream count of the re-released remix will STACK/COMBINE with the stream count of the originally released remix, so you don't need to worry about split play counts.
When the remix is re-released on its own, the remixer will be automatically added as a Headline Artist to the release, forcing it to appear correctly/better on their Spotify & Apple Music profile. Here's how to do it --
Step 1 - Create a new release in Soundsystem.
Step 2 - Click "Compilation Tool" below the "Add Track" button.
Step 3- Find your track and add it to the release.
Step 4 - IMPORTANT - To prevent the track from getting re-released on Beatport, go to the "Details & Settings" of the track and click "Hide from DJ Stores".
Step 5 - Set the release date and ship the release!
