Music labels powered by Proton benefit from our constant devotion to helping save time, freeing up more energy for higher pursuits (or getting some much needed rest). That's why we invent the Compilation Tool -- which streamlines and simplifies the process of re-releasing existing tracks on a new release, without having to re-upload files, re-enter metadata, or do much of anything else except select the songs to be re-released.

This is great for "Best Of" compilations, putting an album together of earlier released singles, or any time a previously released song wants to be released again.

What is the Compilation Tool?

The Compilation Tool is a feature inside SoundSystem empowering music labels to compile and re-release tracks with minimal effort. It automatically copies over all metadata like track titles, artists, genres, royalty rates, expenses, contracts, and previously uploaded WAV files -- saving tons of time!

Potential Uses of the Compilation Tool

  • Compilations: Quickly compile tracks previously released on your label. Some of the best-selling releases of the year for a music label can be their "Best Of" annual or seasonal compilations.

  • Albums & Singles: Sometimes a music label will release singles from an upcoming album: putting out singles before the full album comes out later. With the compilation tool this makes things easier, and you can do it in one of two ways:

    • (a) If the album is completely done and shipped already for a future release date, the Compilation Tool can help you select individual songs to be released in advance before the full album's release date.

    • (b) If the album is NOT completely done and you want to start shipping singles ahead of time, you can prepare the singles first on their own, and then once the full album is ready, you can use the compilation tool to select those singles and add them to the album.

  • New Remixes of Previously Released Tracks: If you have a particular track in your label's catalog that has been performing exceptionally well, you can re-release it along with new remixes. With the Compilation Tool you can easily add the original to the new remixes without any effort.

How to Use the Compilation Tool

  • Log in to your SoundSystem account.

  • Select your label.

  • Create a new release by entering the release name and catalog number.

  • Instead of filling out the form to create a new track, look for the "Compilation Tool" button instead right next to it.

  • Search and add tracks to your release.

Important Details

  • You can only add tracks using the Compilation Tool that are available on Beatport. Streaming-only tracks will not appear when you search for them. (We hope to resolve this limitation in the future!)

  • One of the tool's best features is the ability to include both new and old tracks in a release. You can re-release tracks from your catalog while also adding new tracks as usual.

IMPORTANT: Notify Your Artists

If you are re-releasing music on your label on a compilation, we strongly encourage informing artists about the new release. This makes sure they're aware of and OK with the re-release, but also means they can help with promotion!
