Identifying truly ethical breeders can be challenging, especially in Singapore where there is little information regarding the importance of supporting ethical breeders. While most local pet shops offer little information about their puppies' backgrounds, we've built something different at PupUp.
PupUp's Verification Standards
We've personally visited over 90% of our breeders' facilities. Our team has spent countless hours on the ground, meeting the breeding dogs face-to-face, inspecting living conditions, and having heart-to-heart conversations with the people raising your future companion.
Stay connected with us on Instagram for regular updates on our breeder visits, showcasing everything from puppy socialization sessions to dog shows across the country.
Our verification isn't just paperwork—it's real relationships with passionate breeders who've opened their doors to us:
Documentation Review: We examine all relevant licenses, health testing results, breeding records, and facility photos.
Interview Process: We personally interview each breeder to assess their knowledge, breeding philosophy, and commitment to puppy welfare and placement. We also make it a point to visit as many of our breeders as possible. As of March 2025, we have personally visited more than 90% of all PupUp breeders.
Health Testing Standards: Every breed on PupUp has a breed-specific list of health testing standards that breeders adhere to.
Ongoing Monitoring: Once approved, breeders remain subject to our community review system and periodic re-verification.
This multi-layered approach means you don't have to spend time and effort uncovering the behind-the-scenes of a breeder - we've done the legwork for you.
The Transparency You Deserve
PupUp requires our breeders to provide transparent information that typically isn't available when purchasing from pet shops:
Complete Health Testing: Depending on the breed, this may include OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) or PennHIP evaluations for hip and elbow dysplasia, eye examinations by board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists, cardiac evaluations, and genetic testing for breed-specific conditions.
Pedigree Information: Detailed lineage information allowing you to research the health and longevity of a puppy's ancestors.
Socialisation Protocol: Documentation of the specific socialisation experiences provided to puppies, particularly important for adapting to Singapore's urban environment.
Vaccination and Deworming Records: Complete medical history from birth until the puppy goes home.
Contract and Health Guarantee: Clear terms regarding the breeder's responsibilities and guarantees for genetic health issues.
Red Flags PupUp Helps You Avoid
We're often asked if we have rejected breeders, and the truth is that while we would love for all breeders to be on PupUp, we say no to:
Unwillingness to show the puppy's parents or living conditions
Reluctance to provide health testing documentation
Pressure to make quick decisions without adequate information
Multiple litters available simultaneously from different breeds
Puppies available year-round without appropriate breaks for breeding dogs
Vague or limited health guarantees
Completely absent from dog shows or breed-related activities within the dog community
Transparency
Every breeder on PupUp has gone through our extensive verification requirements ensuring they meet our standards. You'll also find detailed information about their breeding program, health testing practices, and puppy raising protocols, allowing you to make an informed decision beyond simply looking at puppy photos.
By using PupUp, you gain access to a level of transparency and verification that would be extremely difficult to achieve on your own.
