Step 1: Accessing the Chart of Accounts

  1. Log in to your Odoo system and navigate to the Accounting application.

  2. Go to Configuration > Chart of Accounts in the menu.

Step 2: Creating a New Account

  1. Click the "Create" button in the accounts list to create a new account.

  2. Fill in the required fields:

    • Account Code: A unique identifier for the account.

    • Account Name: The name of the account, which should clearly indicate its purpose.

    • Account Type: Select the type of account (e.g., Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income, Expenses).

    • Allow Reconciliation: Enable this if the account requires reconciliation (e.g., for bank accounts).

    • Company: Select the company for which the account is being created.

Step 3: Configuring the Chart of Accounts

  1. Grouping accounts:

    • Use the "Add Custom Group" option to create groupings by type or category of accounts.

    • Account groups are useful to list multiple accounts as sub-accounts of a larger account and consolidate reports such as the Trial Balance.

  2. Filtering accounts:

    • Use built-in filters (e.g., Receivable, Payable, Equity) or create your own filters using "Add Custom Filter".

  3. Setting up taxes and reconciliation:

    • Configure taxes and reconciliation for each account in the Accounting Options section.

Step 4: Reviewing and Editing Accounts

  1. Viewing balance:

    • Click the "Balance" button to view the debit and credit balance of the account.

  2. Editing accounts:

    • Use the "Setup" button to edit account settings.

Conclusion

Creating and configuring a chart of accounts in Odoo allows for effective management of financial data and ensures accuracy in financial reporting. The chart of accounts may vary depending on the company's fiscal localization, and a database can have multiple charts of accounts for different companies, but only one chart per company.

Note: The fiscal localization package installed by default (based on your country selection when creating the database) includes a standard Chart of Accounts already configured according to the country's regulations. You can use it directly or customize it according to your company's needs.
