Get Found and Get Matched: Using Topical Tags

Learn how the tags on your profile help you get matched with relevant media opportunities and show up in reporter searches. Also covers how to add tags to your profile.

Topical tags tell Qwoted what subjects you're interested in pitching, so our system can surface relevant media opportunities to your inbox. They're one of several signals we use to match you with the right requests.

What tags do

Tags serve two purposes:

  • First, they influence which email alerts you receive.

  • Second, they make you more discoverable. When reporters search the expert database for sources on a specific topic, your tags help you show up.

How to add them

Head to your profile and click "Add tags" at the top of the page. Search for topics that reflect the industries and subject areas you want to pitch, and add whatever fits. You can add up to 50 tags per profile, so feel free to start broad, get specific, or do both.

Having an issue with adding your tags?

Please note, do NOT include the # symbol when adding your tags. This will cause them to not save.

Example:

Incorrect: #InvestmentBanking
Correct: InvestmentBanking

As you start to type with no hashtag symbol, the dropdown menu will appear with suggestions and you can select from the list.

What to expect after adding tags

Once your tags are in place, you may start receiving email notifications about opportunities related to those themes, along with other requests our system identifies as a potential match.

Note: PR users will also receive alerts for tags added to their represented Expert profiles.

Want more control over your alerts?

Please note that the tags are only part of what incluences your alerts. Other keywords on your profile and past pitches also impact your alerts. Visit the Tailor Your Alerts page in your Settings to fine-tune the types of opportunities you're notified about. Learn more about email alerts here.

Tags on PR Profiles

If you're a PR professional, focus on keeping your experts' profiles tagged accurately. They're the ones who appear in the source database, so that's where tags make the biggest difference. Your own profile tags are pulled automatically from the experts you represent.
