Our commitment to your account security

Qwoted is committed to protecting the security, privacy, and confidentiality of your account information. We use multiple techniques to help secure our services, including requiring Two-Factor Authentication (2FA). This added authentication prevents unauthorized users from gaining access to your Qwoted account even if they have your username and password.

What is two-factor authentication?

Two-factor authentication is a login process that requires two different authentication steps to establish identity. Usually, the first authentication factor is using a unique password along with a username.

The second factor could be:

  • Receiving an email that includes a time-based one-time password or code and then entering that back on the website or app.

  • Receiving an SMS message that includes a time-based one-time password or code and then entering that back on the website or app.

Why use 2FA?

If you use a unique password generator or create crafty, unique passwords, you might wonder why you need 2FA. 2FA mitigates the threat of guessed or stolen credentials, which can happen through no fault of the user.

Known methods of credential theft are the following:

  • Physically stealing your laptop or phone

  • Cyberattacks such as:

    • Keylogger programs that enable hackers to spy on users, capturing everything they type. Once inside, the malware can explore the computer and record keystrokes to steal passwords.

    • Brute force attacks like using automated computer algorithms to rapidly try different passwords.

    • Wi-Fi hacking where hackers intercept your network connection and steal your passwords or any other data that you’re transmitting.

  • Through a data breach which may contain your username and passwords

Additionally, knowing when someone logs into your account can be helpful in identifying suspicious login attempts. 2FA notifies you as soon as someone unauthorized tries to log in because you receive a text message or other alert. This unauthorized actor is now unable to gain access to your account, because you enabled 2FA. You can decline the request, or they will be unable to access the 2FA-generated code.

This is especially important because your account contains sensitive information about you or your clients, and we want to help you protect your reputation online.

How do I set up 2FA on Qwoted?

Follow the applicable instructions to set up two-factor authentication on the Qwoted platform.

Qwoted is compatible with any SMS text-message 2FA or time-based one-time passcode 2FA provider. Many users prefer SMS text-messages with a time-based one-time passcode, because their phone number is portable to other devices.

How does setting up 2FA affect my privacy?

You might also be wondering if enabling 2FA will make any changes to the information you provide to Qwoted. Your information is only used for the purposes stated. It will not be used for marketing or anything you do not consent to, as already outlined in our Privacy Policy.

If you opt for manual verification, this verification is done by Qwoted’s internal team.

What happens if I lose access to my 2FA device?

Please contact support@qwoted.com if you lose your 2FA device.

What if I use a shared account?

Your account must accurately reflect your name and your email. This is important for account confirmation and to ensure you can easily regain access to your account during the verification process. Qwoted does not allow shared accounts for this reason.

See Qwoted's Code of Conduct page for more information.
